From being PIP'd at a startup to leveling up into a FANG in four months.

When my manager sat me down in our 1:1 to deliver me the news that I was about to be put on a PIP the next week and to use the weekend to think what my next step should be, my initial reaction was to want to take it and save my job. I knew I've been in a bit of a slump, sleeping very poorly, and not outputting as much as I could have. But to be quite honest, this was a blessing in disguise.
The company I've been working at wasn't doing that well to begin with. We raised a series D in just under two years of existence and my options have quintupled in value since joining, but we've had regulational troubles and the hardware team has been slipping. Our CTO was fired four months after I joined, and our new CTO promised to double our engineering headcount by the end of last year. We've maybe only added 5 people to a team of 30 instead by that point. To that end, I've had multiple manager changes within that time period: a total of five managers and six manager changes all within 12 months. As this was my first job out of college, I thought this was all normal for a startup.
In addition, the pay was very low. For a new grad that didn't know better, like yours truly, that number was a lot for someone who was only ever paid hourly. But after discussing with friends that went onto working at FANGs and other, more established unicorn startups, it was abundantly clear that me and my fellow colleagues were severely underpaid. Like, over 50% lower in base salary alone underpaid for the same line of work and more stress.
The work itself wasn't that great either. It was a system that had to be supported globally with different rules in different countries and with physical hardware that we had little control over. Nobody left the office before dinner was served, and seldom did people start going home after dinner was finished (well, up until recently since people stopped giving fucks). We had almost no senior engineers either, most of the work was done by fresh grads or interns from top CS schools. We maybe had only four veteran IC's, but the rest of the "senior" staff were in management. Everyone else was a new grad or junior engineer. You wouldn't find anyone that had more than two years of experience in the rest of the crowd. It's fun to be around people my age, but the work was sloppy and stressful when shit broke because you're trying to build something with little guidance and your code reviewers are other new grads that are equally as experienced as yourself. Nobody (besides maybe three people) has ever coded in the framework we used, and everyone learned the language and framework right on the job. Our only training was a link to an official guide.
I'm not going to get into the company politics, but it's sufficient to say our Blind was so spicy to the point screenshots of several call-out threads were brought up in meetings and mentioned in all-hands. It was pretty bad.
But going back to me getting served a PIP. My manager gave me an ultimatum: either take the PIP, or take severance and interview for another company. Over that weekend, I thought really hard about all the things I've seen and done in the past year, and quite frankly, I found that I haven't been happy at that place for a while now. It doesn't make sense to try to save a job I wasn't going to be happy at, where I get paid peanuts, and where my contributions are invisible to upper management because the longest I've had the same manager for was two and a half months. I decided to take the severance and leave.
This gave me time to relax, exercise, enjoy hobbies I haven't done in months, and most importantly, spend time with family and friends I haven't been around with because of this job. Oh, I forgot to mention that the company moved headquarters halfway through my tenure and bumped my commute from 20 minutes to over an hour.
I haven't touched leetcode or interview prep materials in ages since joining, so I really only hit the books about two weeks after leaving. My daily routine would be to exercise in the day, eat a protein heavy meal, and study up leetcode into the night at a 24/7 cafe. I would usually do this with a buddy or two who are freelance developers. I also kept a spreadsheet of jobs I was interested in and updated their statuses in where I was at in the process, who the point of contact was, when the interview dates are, etc. I wanted to end up at a FANG company since their offices were much closer to where I lived and the culture there would help me grow more as an engineer. My process was that I started off with companies I didn't quite care about to practice interviewing, and then build up to places I did want to end up working at.
I slowly but steadily practiced coding problems, took my time to understand what the solutions were, and apply those skills onto other problems that came up. In reality, most programming problems you encounter are really just other problems in disguise, and you just need to know the fundamentals of CS to get through them. I'm sure everyone wants to know what my stats are, so here they are: 64 easy, 50 medium, 15 hard.
After a few months of practice and interviewing at companies I wasn't particularly interested in, I started applying for places that actually interested me. In the end, I got two offers and was able to negotiate with a FANG company that has an office 10 minutes away from my house. I not only nearly tripled my TC, but I also got leveled up to an L4. After being stuck in L3 for almost two years with shit pay, I am glad my patience and steady progress paid off.
My lessons learned in this whole experience:
As for my tips for the interview prep:
Most of my system design solutions came from experiences I've had and a lot were creative, open-ended questions. My advice is to be likeable to the interviewer and not BS your thought process. For some reason, system design is something that comes the most natural to me, so I sadly can't give much tips for studying on it besides seeing for yourself how current systems are built.
And in general, you should be likeable to the interviewer. Smile, ask them what they work on, what cool projects they've done at the company, what their work life balance is like, etc. You're interviewing for the company and you're interviewing the company for yourself. Your interviewer is judging on whether you'd be a good person to be around with for 8 hours and help contribute to solving their problems, and you're judging whether the company you're interviewing for will make you enjoy yourself being there.
Everyone's experience is unique and certainly not as relaxed as mine. I thankfully had enough savings to last me almost a whole year without a job, but I realize others might not be fortunate enough to have that luxury. It'll be hard, but worth it to study up in the evenings and then take days off to go to onsites. In the end, what matters most is your sanity and happiness.
Tl;dr: job sucked, I got PIP'd, quit, took time off, studied, interviewed, and accepted a FANG offer that tripled my pay in four months.

Significant Dualities, in Nature and in Societies

Caution: This article is a long read, and goes in many directions. For the curious mind, it's a lively mindfield to explore and come back again and again. If you prefer poster images, never mind.
Some links occur here mostly because they're interesting, and somehow are part of a duality.
For me, duality means at least two things which are associated somehow, but considered separately are different. We don't need to count above 2, like say 'polyality' because obviously the idea of divergence, or fork, is able to have many 'tines' or separate paths. (See Tuning Fork, below.) We don't have time to cover every possibility, so let's just stick with 2, the most simple case of multiple. (See Rhizome Philosophy for an interesting alternative to this binary association structure. Also the paragraph titled "Association Schemes" in Exploiting the Pyramid.)
We aren't considering pairs of identicals, like dual wheels, two of exactly the same thing, but maybe if there is a small difference, or doubtful meaning between similar things (see dual internal organs under anatomy, below).
Sometimes the association between things is not obvious, in which case we better explain, but most dualities are obviously two tined. Let it go at that.
Tuning Fork, a synchronous dynamic opposition, and also an acoustic device having a dual nature similar to both stringed eg. Piano and other percussion devices (eg. Glockenspiel. See also disambiguation of similar percussion instruments. Tuning forks have the advantage of needing no containment structure because their duality counter-balances the vibrations. All the other devices have a single resonator for each tone.

Bernoulli's two-path model of lift vs Newton's Reaction of air-inertia model of force
Previous link models a lifting surface as a flat-plane and air is deflected in a single direction. Modeling a lifting surface as an arc also works, but no simple reference explaining this is found. So I'm going to do it, very briefly...
Imagine a wing, or sail, is a simple arc, and a small sample of air passing by it is like a stone on a string.. Air has mass, therefore thrusting it around a curve causes a reaction force opposite the center of the curve (aka lift.)
This is an important example because large commercial aircraft wings are complex mechanical devices that change shape depending on speed (scroll down to Flaps). At low speed, the wing simulates an arc, and a sail is made loose to form a larger curve. (Sailing in light airs, reduce tension on halyards, while a tight (more flat) sail configuration is called 'close-hauled').

Respiratory-Circulatory System Overlap (dual function) Venous Blood forced by thoracic-ambient pressure differential... Heart and lungs are together in the pulmonary cavity, experience simultaneous pressure fluctuations (scroll down to 'Respiratory Pump'), thus fluid influx and egress (air is a fluid). Respiration includes blood circulation, the respiratory and circulatory systems are inextricably linked.
Note that previous articles omit hydrostatic pressure which influences venous circulation (fluid pressure is higher at lower elevations, depending on density; eg. Hg (used in barometers) is 13.534g/cm3, blood is 1.06 g/cm3 (slightly more than water)). When you experience tingling, numbness or swelling due to inactivity, raise the inactive limbs above heart, gravity will help the circulation. Also, dizziness might be due to pressure variations in brain, such as suddenly standing upright after kneeling for awhile. Move more slowly.
Notice that we have only indirect control over heart-rate. We can increase physical activity (especially respiration) voluntarily, then the autonomous nerve system takes care of the rates.

Jewish Origins of Communism
For (Moses) Hess, the cardinal sin of the Judaic people was to abandon their heritage, while the cardinal objective of his Communism was to persuade all other people to abandon theirs…
Communism was the means for achieving Judaic supremacy over the gentiles. The gentiles were fated to be reduced to a faceless, deracinated mass. Capitalism was also capable of producing this effect, through free trade and the unfettered financialization of society, in which the management of money becomes a vast business in itself, and where the highest virtue, after obeisance to Judaism, is profit.

18 and i just want to die

Let's start with my family my grandparents are both Iowa farm kids
My grandmother grew up in an abusive household but went on to become a counselor
My grandfather had a pretty normal childhood but was told he was stupid because he had a speech
impediment he went on to become an engineer
My dad what's the all-around good kid until about 6th grade and then he got into drugs things started
going downhill from there
My uncle is a social recluse and doesn't really talk to anyone outside of work and family
And then there's me the girl born April 28th 2001( I'm 18) in Texas
I was born to a mom I never really got to know I have lived with my grandparents since I was 6 months
old because both of them went to prison not for the same stuff just around the same time and they were
The Logical option for caregivers since my Mom's family was very poor and tended to get into trouble
My first memory is of wanting to die
I went to a private school when I was old enough
it was a good school but I had severe learning disabilities that prevented me from Keeping Up with the
class so we switched to homeschool
And I'm at my first best friend and my worst best friend
For this story will just call her fee
She was bossy and mean but the extent of her meanness was not normal best friend memes she was
downright abusive I have distinct memories of her punching and kicking me and not enough unfriendly
way I was just supposed to take it because that's what bestfriends did right? I didn't know at the time that
she was going through a lot of stuff too I don't blame her but you could call me stupid and fat and ugly all
the time and eventually I started to believe it
Flash Forward I am a slightly rebellious 13 year old living in a very conservative Southern Christian home
going to youth camp just so I can hang out with my friends for the summer because I hate being alone
I had made new friends a girl named Misty we were best friends and we did everything together as
almost her family was not well off so she spent a lot of time at my house
fee insulted her and me by implying that that we had hurt one of our mutual friends j Feelings by trying to
cheer her up it was why she laughed
My friend Misty left crying and fee tried to convince me that it was my fault I told her it wasn't and we
were just having fun we did not speak for the rest of the trip
Right after that I tried cutting for the first time not because I was sad because I just wanted to but I got
kind of hooked after that
on the ride back home, I asked my friend fee to text my grandparents where we were going to be picked
up she didn't speak to me at all she looked at her friend like it was so hard for her for me to talk to her I
didn't understand at the time but apparently she had made up the story I still don't know what that story
was
My church at the time did a camp called noise camp it was a daytime dance camp it was pretty cool
anyway me and my grandmother were supposed to spend the night at fees house we got there and I
was Wipeout tired so I asked if there was a place I could crash Feast mother will call her Miss T told me
that I could go into fees room and that I could take this blanket that she handed me so I wouldn't be
sleeping under her covers
I don't think about it too hard I just take the stuff and take my nap I wake up to a punch in the stomach
and someone screaming at me fee is telling me that I had no right to sleep in her room without her
permission I said that I had asked her mom her mom comes running in and apologizes to fee for the
misunderstanding
That night she gives me some sob story that she tried cutting and didn't like it and that she's been trying
to save me for years I disregard it cuz I don't want to be saved but that night I
realized we had drifted apart as friends
Flashing forward a few months me and She haven't really talked in a while there's a nasty rumor going
on about me in the youth group that I'm a lesbian and I tried to force myself on fee which isn't true at all

around this time I had a ton of other friends in the youth group and I wasn't so isolated I wasn't so
isolated anymore fee takes me aside during the worship service which was so loud you couldn't hear
yourself think and tries to have a heart-to-heart with me I tell her that I cannot hear her but she won't
listen she cried and she talked for probably 20 minutes to this day I have no clue what she was trying to
say to me I just know she never really talked to me after that
Flash Forward to 5 years ago my first CC practicum I meet my long-time best friend (for this will call her
Kay) Kay and I became immediate friends and we're pretty much inseparable we went to the same
where I met her sister and my other longtime friend clo and I was introduced to probably the best friend
I've ever had Haley
Haley was like my long-lost sister basically we spent the best summer of my life together have and
subsisting on a steady diet of Doritos dr. Pepper Nutella and Oreos in varying combinations
It all came crashing down
I join another Co-op called salt it's pretty cool and it's another chance to see all my friends during the
week
I have a distinctive memory of one of my friends named Josh coming over to me and Point Blank asking
me if I'm a lesbian I asked him where he heard that and he indicates a table where his sister and her
friends are sitting she tells me he's just letting me know that way I can get ahead of it if I need to he was
a good guy
Around that time me and Haley are starting to form our own ideas about religion and gender
We agreed that we didn't believe in the binary gender system and that Christianity isn't the only option
We did Wicca spells and had tons of fun
It's at this time I should probably mention that her parents were extremely controlling and abusive
My grandma found out about it and me and Haley got an extreme trouble and I never got to spend the
night at her house or really hang out with her truly after that
About three weeks later my grandma gets a call from Haley's mom asking if I'm a lesbian it's a
completely unfounded accusation coming out of nowhere because of the time I identified as pansexual
I never got to see Haley at all after that except twice and we never really talked I lost the best friend I
ever had in two weeks and it sent me one of the biggest depression spirals I've ever gone through
I'm a skinny person I am 5 7 usually averaging about 115 lb I dropped to 90 lb
I refuse to eat
Couldn't sleep
I was crushed by the weight of losing another friend
My Saving Grace for my two best friends kay and Clo
And the fact that that year I got a puppy
These things brought me back to life again
It wasn't until about a year later when I saw Haley at a local comic convention but she told me she was
hanging out with Sophia and she had been ever since we split up me and my grandmother did some
additional asking around and it turns out that Mrs T and fee had convinced Haley's mom that I was a
lesbian and that the LIE he had spread at youth group was true to this day I don't know why she did it
Salt dissolves and a new co-op is created called I can
I go to a new CC group in Watauga
And I meet my first love a boy we will call el
I can't say that I remember the good times I had with him if I know there were a lot for two years he was
my whole world
But there was something fundamentally wrong with our relationship I wanted some type of validation
from him he could never give and he wanted some type of validation for me I couldn't give either
His mother interfered too much with our relationship and it caused a split in him he was truly broken

because of it
Our relationship had become very sexual but he was a good Christian boy was good Christian morals
but he still wanted in my pants we did everything but the actual deed and boy did I want to but I saved
him from that because I knew in the end it would break him
Some days you would believe that we were doing fine and that sex sounded great and other days he
would believe that we were doing wrong and bad and disobeying our parents he would tell me to be
good but you can't respect my boundaries I'm an all-or-nothing kind of person and if we can't fuck I don't
want to hold hands or get too close to you cuz that's what I want all or nothing
His mom grounded us from speaking at all the same month I went to Alaska at this time we were going
to the same church so I could at least count on seeing him then
the First full month I didn't see him this came right after the few weeks he was a way at a camp helping I
later found out he cheated on me with another woman I was open to an open relationship but he never
asked me if he could be with this girl I would have said no because he was 16 and she was 19 and I
don't like that age Gap
when I get back home from Alaska everything is fine I get to see him at a church service and everything
is going fantastic and he invites me to come to youth on Wednesday
We text that Wednesday and he's telling me we should be good and I don't even know what he's talking
about because we haven't done anything bad at all nothing we didn't even kiss
it's at this moment I decided that I just can't handle this relationship anymore which is kind of an
opportune moment because I asked him are you breaking up with me and all I get back is he yeah
I go to youth that night anyway and I give him back the ring he gave me
We were together for 2 years it wasn't like it was nothing we had plans dreams together I was willing to
give up everything for him but he wasn't willing to sacrifice even a little for me
We continue talking for maybe a week afterward and he hits me that his mom add FaceTime with the
ultimatum if you didn't leave me he would be disowned by his family she also gave him a list of 30 things
that was wrong with me why I'm a bad person he as a Parting Gift gave me a copy of this list
We don't really speak after that
To this day I've only had two conversations with him
I go through my next big depression
And I graduate
I start talking to a boy I met in 2018
Will call him B he was nice but at the time I knew him he was dating someone else although that didn't
stop him from making his joking but have serious advances on me I don't know maybe I'm hot stuff lol
Anyway it didn't work out then
And it didn't work out in 2018 although he had just broken up with his girlfriend and I had broken up with
my boyfriend it was kind of The Perfect Storm but he lives in Indiana and isn't into long-distance stuff
Summer of 2019 I don't want another trip to Europe and I see him again just passing through I don't
know maybe I ignited a spark in him who knows
But I start talking to another boy on the internet and then B it's me with these likes me all this time and he
doesn't want me to be with this other person my heart makes the decision and I told the other person that
I'm not going to leave them on they don't take it well
B comes to Texas to visit me
Just before that we say our first I love yous and I think everything's complete again just for a moment
although it's really scary giving my heart away again
We spend the week getting closer and closer I had an amazing time probably one of the best times of my
life but in the end I don't know I guess it wasn't meant to be he went home went to college and kind of
stopped talking to me I don't know if it's because of my depression I can get pretty bad sometimes and I
know it's a downer but he said he could handle it maybe he lied maybe I was just a Summer Fling to him

but it felt so real we're still friends but it still hurts but there's nothing I can do about it he says he just
sees me as a friend
I plan to and successfully lost my virginity while he was here I don't regret it at all not one bit I had a
pregnancy scare maybe that's what really scared him away when he stop talking to me I began to
become depressed over again and begin to talk about suicide which isn't odd for me it's around the same
time I understand that he took an acid trip and suffered ego death that's my true Theory as to what
happened the time lines up and everything
It still hurts when I talk to him but I don't care cuz he's a good friend my pain means nothing to me
We're just friends at this point but he invites me to Indiana to visit him
I'm thinking maybe there's a chance some slim chance that seeing me me will reignite the passion
I was wrong I took the sweatshirt he gave me and I left it in Indiana he probably didn't understand it was
a symbol but it was truly over
I met another boy while I was there I had also known him from the year before his name is J and he's
really cute and I like him a lot
I got to try getting high for the first time while I was in Indiana and it was an amazing experience I can
see myself just living for that those moments where the world spins and nothing matters the World of
Color noise and has no meaning to me I love it
I find I find bees friend Jay extremely attractive and seeing as my options are limited well we're watching
the movies my last night they're high as hell I tried to put my head on his shoulder I don't know if I
physically did because I was numb all over but he got the message we've been chatting and sexting ever
since
I plan to visit Indiana just a fuck and smoke with J soon
Around the same time I start talking to another old friend that I met around the same time I was with L
I really like him alot but at the same time he's through too much to commit to anyone and I get that on
some level but I'm really the type of person just to throw it all out there and see what sticks pain be
Damned

His name is m and he's very interesting I fear that one day he'll get bored of me I feel bad day like
impending doom forever approaching and unavoidable

My grandmother has been down on me recently she wants what's best for me and all I want is to have
fun what's best to be damned life isn't worth living if it's not for fun that's all I live for I hate living it's just
pain but I will never cause others pain if I can avoid it so I'll just decay on my own slowly but surely
curling towards the abyss my only hope is it'll be a lot of fun on the way there that's my story so far I'll
keep updating though

BJP Government Performance Analysis: Administration & Governance

This is my 2nd article in the series of articles which analyse the work of Modi government starting from 2014 till present date. This one is about administration and governance. Unlike the first one on defence, it is not that binary and there are quite a few gray areas and is subject to opinions as much it is to facts. For example, I like how NGOs have been brought under tougher checks and a lot of such organisations have been forced to shut shop. But quite a few people view it as unfair.

Additionally, there is an overlap between governance issues and various others like economy, foreign policy etc. In this article, focus will will be on the work done or changes in way of working of central government ministries and departments. Some of these will be mentioned in next article which will be about economy issues.
1. Steps for leaner, responsive and more efficient government.
This is the most obvious, yet hardest things to do for any regime. All the decisions made by the politically elected government are implemented by officials who usually see multiple such governments come and go through their service. It is next to impossible to fire or even penalise them for even gross incompetence. Any reform in their way of working is extremely hard and takes years of sustained effort. Political and ideological differences even among ministers also play their part. Then there are politicians who have a mutually beneficial nexus with such officials even when they are out of power. Some of the first steps taken by Modi regime was to break this nexus and it seems to have succeeded partially. But there is still a long way to go.
GOOD
  1. Officials working for central government have been forced to work much harder, so much so that many now view these prestigious jobs as punishment postings. Many non-performing officers have been disciplined and even sacked, a first. 1* 2* 29* 68* 112* 118* 132*
  2. Even serving ministers have been forced to adopt austerity measures. Some examples are no new vehicles, reduced travel expenses 1113 71* 125*
  3. Influence of foreign interests, corporates and their lobbyists has been severely curtailed. Many “powerful” people who had a lot of influence in various ministries and govt departments now don’t have insider knowledge or influence over decision making. 26* 63* 75*
  4. Many politicians squatting on government properties have been forced to vacate them. List of more than 1500 such squatters includes many former ministers, MLAs, MPs and many so called artists, inetellectuals who have been staying in govt allotted properties long after their time was over. Even BJP run state governments have evacuated have evacuated former CMs and MLAs. 61* 65* 104* 108* 109* 113*
  5. Business of paid for postings and transfers in many central govt departments has been severely curtailed. 7* 105*
  6. Many useless posts have been abolished and major departments downsized and streamlined. Often posts like this were used to accommodate officials in high paying post-retirement postings.4* 117*
  7. There is much greater communication between government and people. Many ministers and even PM office interact with common citizens on Twitter among other platforms. 124* 119*
  8. Options opened for direct entry of domain experts in to government departments. 133* 134* 135*
  9. Various measures taken to improve business climate like curtailment of harassment by various inspectors, passing of bankruptcy law, steps to improve ease of doing business among many others. It resulted in India making a record jump in ease of doing business index in 2017 and broke in to top 100 for first time. 3* 10* 12* 23* 46* 59* 66* 72* 154* 155* 156* 158* 159* 160*
  10. A very large number of old, archaic laws removed. Latest one under consideration (July 2018) in Supreme Court is article 377, removal of which will lead to decriminalisation of homo-sexuality. 1159 such redundant laws removed in just 2 years. 42* 163* 164* 165*
BAD
  1. Attempts to clean up bureaucracy and red tape need more will. In 4 years, there have not been many deep reforms in functioning of most govt departments, as far as corruption and delays are concerned. Then there have been some seemingly counter-productive measures like the one which makes it harder to investigate a govt servant.
  2. For most part, BJP ruled states have not shown enough initiative and willingness for reforms as was expected of them.
SCORE: 6.5/10
2.Corruption and black money.
Before anyone starts “where are my 15 lakh which Modi promised”, kindly watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOa04NN1M_Q
Recovering black money was one of the major poll promises of BJP and they have made fairly good progress on some fronts while it lacks on others.. As it happened, cleanups also unearthed huge scams in bank loans in which UPA regime gave away loans to numerous people who never meant to pay those back. This has proven to be one of the biggest scams in history and many big industrialists and UPA politicians including former Finance Minister Chidambaram have been implicated. Many of them have ran away from India to escape persecution. Apart from that, even after their best efforts, all the opposition parties and their followers have been unable to find a single corruption charge against Modi regime till date.
Demonetisation, however controversial it may be, has enabled recovery of untaxed income worth thousands of crores which would have never happened except for drastic measure like this. Implementation of GST was not perfect, but it has led to streamlined taxation process with reduced leakage, This link contains list of some income tax raids done immediately after demonetisation. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRovmVA_9x7NoyJHFLFZ7pA1Mi7gUYB6_OuGHgQA0pFLc9qQ1xTGMClqpGrudmZJ7YrBcg1n-VguZBi/pubhtml?gid=1658058173&single=true
GOOD
  1. Huge scam in banking sector in which loans worth thousands of crores were given away without proper checks under influence of UPA ministers unearthed. Number of industrialists, bank officials and politicians are implicated. Many of these industrialists are being forced to give back that money. Legal actions being taken against others, some of which have fled India and some politicians and their associates. Banks starting to show gains after sustained recovery efforts. 120* 131* 136* 137* 138* 139* 140* 141* 158*
  2. Many politicians jailed or under investigation for various corruption issues including former CMs and central ministers. 130* 142* 143* 144* 149* 150*
  3. Many dubious NGOs, many of which have shady backgrounds have been forced to shut shop or forced to reduce their operations. Among the benign ones, many of such organisations were front for money laundering and payment of lackeys. Others were foreign sponsored fronts for mass scale conversions of Indics, anti-India propaganda and terrorism. 5* 9* 21* 91* 115* 126* 127* 145*
  4. A large quantity of black money from foreign bank accounts successfully recovered. Treaties signed with Switzerland (among other countries) under which Swiss will share details of Indians owning bank accounts in Swiss banks. 103* 122* 128* 129* 146* 148*
  5. Large increase in number of people paying income tax after rules like Aadhar verification, demonetisation, GST. Huge amounts of money recovered in income tax raids. Properties of gangsters targeted. Lakhs of shell companies closed down. 101* 121* 123* 128* 129* 147* 151* 152* 153* 161*
  6. Stronger laws passed against corruption and tax evasion. Top level corruption reduces significantly. 33* 75* 93* 101* 102*
BAD
  1. Modi regime perhaps underestimated how difficult the recovery of black money from foreign accounts will be. Although a huge sum of money has been recovered, the whole process will take a lot longer and most likely will fall short of hype during election campaign.
  2. A number of bank loan defaulters managed to evade authorities and escape to foreign countries. If they had been arrested earlier, then loan recovery would have been a lot more easier and faster.
  3. Implementation of GST was not up to par. Numerous issues still exist which will take atleast a few months to be sorted out.
  4. Although I personally support demonetisation, it was not as well planned as it should have been. Very large number of people faced inconveniences for quite long time due to shortage of currency. Strangely, number of currency notes in circulation has reached back previous levels.
  5. Even if corruption at top levels has been reduced, grassroot corruption still seems to be as bad as it was earlier. Problem of citizens dealing directly with govt departments have not eased much.
SCORE: 6.5/10
The actual score would have been a 6. Extra half point is due to clean image of almost every minister and no scams yet. Opposition parties have tried their best to make up scams like the one for Rafale planes, but their attempts have been laughably stupid.
3. Programs for citizens.
Energy savings with new policies https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/energy/powehow-modi-governments-led-programme-hopes-to-emerge-as-a-win-win-from-consumer-point-of-view/articleshow/52592189.cms Reforms in electricity
This regime seems to have better reach out programs for general public which are meant to make their lives and interaction with government machinery easier and fruitful. In addition to big steps like Jan Dhan bank accounts, Mudra Yojna, free LPG for poor, there have been number of measures implemented to make government departments more responsive and approachable. Some of these points have overlap with economy and infrastructure issues, but they are mentioned here because they affect lives of citizens directly. and profoundly.. Some of these will be explained in detail in later posts.
GOOD
  1. Red tape cut across various government departments. Steps like digital locker, self-attestation of documents and a few others meant to reduce paperwork, unnecessary delays and corruption implemented. 47* 62* 66* 67* 72* 107*
  2. Jan Dhan Yojna brings banking to the poorest and enables direct transfer of funds for subsidies and other welfare programs. This is one of the best measures in quite a long time meant for direct benefit of the poor. Reduces delays and corruption. 167* 168* 169* 170* 171* 172* 173* 175*
  3. Passport issue and re-issue process made much easier and faster. 110* 166*
  4. More platforms for feedback about government departments and policies created. Emphasis on transparency in governance and grievance redressal mechanisms. 79* 124* 116* 119*
  5. Steps taken to solve some employee issues related to Provident Fund, pensions and others. Lot more reforms still needed. 6* 18*
  6. Swachh Bharat Mission despite problems is showing some results. 85% of population now has access to toilets, compared to around 40% at start of program. According to WHO, 3 lakhs deaths caused by diarrhea were averted between 2014 and 2019. A lot of public places like railway stations are much cleaner. 175 * 176* 177* 178* 179*
  7. Ujwala Yojana, a scheme meant to eradicate use of polluting fuels like wood, coal, dung for cooking proves to be a good success. 5 crore new connections allotted ahead of target. 180* 181* 182* 183*
  8. While many countries struggle with it, India implements strong net neutrality rules. 184* 185*
  9. Multiple steps taken to improve conditions for farmers. Extra impetus on reducing malnutrition and increasing availability of nutritional food to citizens through various schemes. 186, 187, 188, 189 205* 206*
  10. Excellent work so far by power ministry bringing even the remotest places in India on electricity grid. A number of villages which had remained outside the grid now have electricity. Additionally, electricity production and distribution is much better. India has a power surplus and is 3rd largest electricity producer in world. Most of issues still remaining are more often than not due to inefficient and corrupt state electricity corporations. Cheap LED bulbs help in reducing power consumption. 190, 191 192* 193* 194* 195* 196* 197* 198* 199* 200* 201* 202*
  11. Much needed push for solar power with huge new solar power plants coming up. 203* 204*
  12. Pace of road construction across the country has picked up substantially and it has been the highest till now. Many remote regions have new connectivity and existing highways in most regions have been upgraded, 207* to 232* 26 \
BAD
  1. Inspite of all the schemes and subsidies, Indian agricultural sector suffers from various issues which will need a lot more work and better implementations. There has been no obvious solution of issues arising due to small size of land holdings, mimimum support prices and bureaucratic red tape.
  2. Swach Bharat mission has been partially successful at best.
  3. Implementation of digital measures meant to reduce red tape have had limited effect till now. Many people and govt departments remain unaware and disinterested in these changes.
SCORE: 7/10
If it was just the intention of projects mentioned here, this would be a full 10. But meaningful implementation of many of these projects is hampered by numerous factors like inefficient, corrupt bureaucracy, infinitely stupid and large population as well as mediocre planning. Some of these projects are longterm and the effects will be visible only after a certain amount of time.
FINAL SCORE: 6.6/10
If compared with UPA regime, this one is miles ahead in almost everything. But this is not a good enough standard to improve upon. There have been some good efforts from top, but on ground implementation has been good in only a few. Some of the long standing issues like reforms in bureaucracy, agriculture and a few other fields which will take more than just good intent and announcement of schemes.
