Luke-Jr decides to rename "paper wallet" to "Paper ECDSA private keys" for all of us. Replaces all paper wallet information on the Bitcoin Wiki with what he prefers to use (HD mnemonic wallet backups).

Luke-Jr doesn't like paper wallets. To this end, he has renamed/moved the official Bitcoin wiki for "Paper Wallet" to "Paper ECDSA private keys", making it confusing and difficult for users to learn what a paper wallet is and how to stay safe when making one. Meanwhile, he has created a brand new "Paper wallet" page in which he redefines a paper wallet as a Armory/Electrum backup of a HD wallet mnemonic seed, and says that these should not be confused with what you and I and everyone else calls a paper wallet.
The other contribution Luke-Jr made to the original paper wallet wiki was to unlink my own service (bitcoinpaperwallet.com) from the wiki, his reasoning being, "BitcoinPaperWallet was removed because it is a website for generating private keys". As someone who has put a lot of energy into paper wallet education and generally helping the bitcoin community with paper wallet generation, I find this utterly baffling.
I don't want to get involved in a revision battle here. Luke-Jr has already started that, reverting any changes I make to the wiki instantly.
If you have an opinion on this matter and you have bitcoin wiki editor privileges, please express it on the discussion page.
Edit 1: you can also express opinions right here of course :)
Edit 2: much of the discussion on this page is about whether or not paper wallets are a good idea, or if websites should be used to generate them. Can we at least agree that these pro/con arguments should appear on a wiki page called "paper wallets" so everyone can find them? If those arguments appear on a wiki page called "Paper ECDSA private keys" then nobody will see them.
Edit 3: Gladoscc on the wiki has renamed "Paper ECDSA private keys" back to "Paper Wallet" as of 12:41 UTC, so you may be confused if you visit the wiki to see what all the hubbub is about -- unless his change has been reverted by the time you read this. :)
Edit 4: Gladoscc's change didn't last for more than 24 hours before Luke-Jr re-reverted the changes, and then added in a confounding set of redirects in the wiki so that "Paper Wallet" redirects to "Paper wallet" which then redirects to his page on HD wallet mnemonic seeds. I cannot understand how this is supposed to help end users who want to learn what a paper wallet is (and why they're risky, and how hard it is to produce them in a safe way.)

Can I print my code and bitcoin wallet info on paper in case my phone crashes or does it need to be a flash drive or electronic backup?

I'm still not clear and want to know the best way to protect my coins before investing a lot. How do I backup my wallet and can I hide away bitcoin on paper somehow?

Seed/private key storage question

I am still figuring out the basics of bitcoin (thanks to this sub and many videos and resources).
Firstly I am not completely sure on the difference between a private key and a seed (although presume it will make more sense once I get properly started). My understanding is the private key is essentially how you access your bitcoins (i.e. spending, moving to different wallets etc) and is stored on your wallet, and a seed is the backup needed if you lose access to the wallet. The private key is essentially a load of random numbers and letters, and a seed is 12+ random words.... Please correct my understanding of this is wrong.
So with that in mind, I assume I don't need to store my private keys as this is what the wallet does, and I just need to store my seed somewhere ultra secure?
If that is correct, does the following sound secure for example for a 12 word seed... Securing all but 2 words in both paper format and somewhere secure such as a password manager (which has 2fa and a v. strong master password). Store these 10 words not in sequence, but with something next to them so I know the order (i.e people's names and its in order of their age so the first word next to the youngest person etc, but only I know who these ppl are and their ages!). I would then memorise the other 2 words and where they fit, meaning at the most a hackethief would have 10 of my words and in the wrong order.

Introducing the NGRAVE ZERO hardware wallet

Introducing the NGRAVE ZERO hardware wallet
Dear community, I would like to introduce you to our new hardware wallet - NGRAVE ZERO - but first I want to address the likely immediate skepticism popping up in your head - "oh no, another one, why should I even bother listening to this?", etc. You might be thinking something along these lines, and rightfully so if you do. So, I want you to know why we really built this.
We chose this path because we are blockchain technology believers, yet our very own experiences have reminded us over and over again that holding crypto isn't safe or at least full of dangers. The best (and for him worst) example is our CTO losing 44,000ETH with his company SwarmCity in the 2017 Parity hack. Similar experiences brought us, the three co-founders of NGRAVE, together in 2018. There and then, we decided to build the one solution that we would fully trust with our very first till our very last bitcoin. A solution to empower you, the user, to start truly owning what is yours.
Throughout our journey, we partnered up with world leading players in nanotechnology, applied cryptography, hardware security, and more. Even the second reference of Satoshi's famed bitcoin paper - the famous cryptographer Jean-Jacques Quisquater - mentioned in almost every cryptography paper - joined in on our project. The result: we built, from the ground up, a new hardware wallet - ZERO - and a new metal backup solution - GRAPHENE. We even designed a system, together with Chainlink, for the safe posthumous recovery of your keys by your family, when the time comes.
We analysed the end-to-end process of you owning your crypto, starting with the generation of your private keys (or master seed), having a real time overview of your accounts, receiving and signing transactions - basically your full user journey. And we left no stone unturned when looking at your security and ease of use. Today, I'm happy to tell you that our pre-order is live on Indiegogo since one week, and that we just surpassed our 500th backer.
With leaving no stone unturned, we really mean it. We for example upgraded the key generation process, so that you no longer have to worry about backdoors in the interior (TRNG) chip (not necessarily by the manufacturer but even by governments and intelligence agencies), or that the hardware manufacturer might have information on your keys. Our ZERO is completely offline, multi-layered tamper proof, and the only blockchain solution in the world with an EAL7 security certification, the highest achievable. That's how serious we take your security.
I'm telling you this now as I believe this is a very good time to contemplate how serious you are about your security and ease of use when managing your crypto. Especially since several of us are already smelling the next bull run. Also especially since you can get the ZERO and GRAPHENE at a considerable discount, right now. And especially since your security is not open for discussion.
And know, if our intention was purely to sell and get rich, we would have chosen an easier entrepreneurial path, but we didn't. We chose the extremely challenging mix of hardware, high security, crypto (a difficult environment to sell given the unfortunate high amount of scams, as well as we started this journey when crypto winter kicked in). We chose this path because we are all-in into fostering worldwide blockchain adoption, and therefore, we make a promise to tackle the security and usability hurdles. No cutting corners.
Start truly owning what is yours.
Ruben

Reddcoin (#RDD) May 2020 Team Update, or “New Wallets & What to Expect when You’re Expecting PoSV v2”

Link to Medium post -> https://medium.com/@techadept/reddcoin-rdd-may-2020-team-update-or-what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-posv-v2-b708319221ce?sk=b5eafc57b67327d99a35380f390d77ca
Hey, ReddHeads!
To new ReddHeads, welcome! To old ReddHeads, welcome back! It’s an exciting time in Reddcoin (RDD) for a lot of reasons, and we, the Reddcoin Core development team, wanted to get a brief update out to touch base on some of the highlights.
Attached are some screenshots of our work to enhance security and interoperability, and to extend support to MacOS Catalina in our newest v3.10.1 wallet.
This wallet release also includes components and performance & security upgrades taken from the Bitcoin 0.10 codebase, and we will be following much of that same development and enhancement in our Reddcoin Core wallet in the future, with 0.11 up next.
This release is not a required upgrade (except for Catalina users), but will benefit user experience and security significantly. We’ll be publishing, of course, a full public changelog, hashes and commit list in Github along with open source code and compiled executables upon release.
But the major changes in Reddcoin v3 are just about to start, as PoSV v2 gets ready to activate. Released to the community on 12/24/19, the blockchain has (at time of writing) reached 8197 of the required 9000 block threshold, or 91.08% of our goal of supermajority. If you haven’t upgraded yet, or aren’t staking, it’s time.
After PoSV v2 activation, older (v2.x, v1.x) wallets will not be able to send transactions or stake.
We anticipate activation to be reached within a very short time period, especially once our Mac ReddHeads are able to participate, and as such we want to ensure that information for the general community is available and up to date.
1) AM I GOING TO LOSE MY REDDCOIN (RDD)??
a. NO. This is a soft-fork, and whether you’ve upgraded to a v3 wallet or not, you cannot lose your coins. The blockchain itself will remain the same, it is only the rules of staking that are changing. Older wallets WILL stop functioning immediately after the threshold is passed and PoSV v2 activates, but all that is required at that point to restore functionality is to install the new v3 wallet. If you need help, please join our Telegram or Discord live chats for community or Dev help directly. No ReddHead left behind!
2) WHAT DO I NEED TO DO??
a. If you’re staking, make sure you’re using a v3 wallet, preferably the latest version. Right now, that is v3.0.1, in a few days with the above noted release it will be v3.10.1. You may also wish to use the “Backup…” function at this time to make sure you have a backup of the only important file you need, the “wallet.dat” file. There are no mobile staking options at this time due to the nature of our PoSV protocol, but you can deposit coins in the dev team-run ReddBot on Telegram to stake if you have no other options until a mobile staking option is made available.
b. If you’re not staking, or are holding on Coinomi, or Guarda, or other 3rd party wallets, or on an exchange, or a paper wallet, you will also have no operational issues, but of course you’re encouraged to help secure the network and validate transactions, by starting to stake.
3) I’M BORED. ENTERTAIN ME!
a. OK. As successful as our first meetup was, we agree. Look for an upcoming benefit concert from Reddcoin and hopscotchmafiamusic.com at the end of this month. No, really. Free awesome music, cool people, come have a bit of fun with the ReddHead community virtually!
4) I’M HUNGRY. FEED ME!
a. Well…with the activation of PoSV v2, and the creation of Reddcoin’s self- funded development mechanism, we’re very excited to be able to provide at least some resources and RDD toward the Reddcoin Community Food & Supply Bank initiative in the near future. Reddcoin Core will also be donating any funds received in connection with the above concert event to worthy and working charities, especially if we can convince them to receive RDD (or BTC). Watch for further info about this and other charity initiatives to come. Our own efforts rely on PoSV v2 activation, but will be documented publicly and transparently as they evolve.
5) I WAS USING RDD AND THEN X (or Y or Z) HAPPENED AND NOW I’M BROKE AND SAD AND ANGRY. HELP ME!
a. Perhaps you’ve not heard about Reddcoin’s uniquely conceived “Reddcoin Restitution Fund”. Been hacked? Lost a few coins when your computer crashed or your brother formatted your hard drive? Reddcoin has committed a percentage of PoSV v2 funding to give back to users legitimately affected by events beyond their control.
Cases of extreme stupidity will be vetted on a case by case basis, obviously fraudulent claims will be laughed at, and all cases will be dependent on a reasonable standard of proof and verification. This is also going to be an evolving and good faith approach to giving back to our real ReddHead community, and will require both transparency and abuse-prevention to be successful, but we look forward to being able to help those who deserve and need it. NOTE: Trading and speculative losses aren’t covered in any of this. Obviously.
6) I WANT TO KNOW MORE!
We’re working right now to rebuild our main website www.reddcoin.com into a more informative and resource-rich site, but it’s a good starting point. We are in the process of updating our roadmap to cover the end of 2020 and the future as well, and both of those should be available and will be announced within the next month.

7) IS TECHADEPT DRINKING WHILE WRITING THIS UPDATE??
a. Yes. Macallan. Fight me.

I ruin people's lives for fun, this is my story.

Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Alex. I am 20 years old and clinically diagnosed with ASPD or Antisocial personality disorder. My diagnosis was given to me back in high school in my Junior year. It was pretty hard making friends or at least keeping them. You see when I try to make friends I usually only go into a relationship because of one thing; to get something in return. You could call it manipulating or deceiving people but, I don’t see it that way. I’ve had many therapists and physiatrists try to help me or figure out what’s wrong with me in the past but, I would just feed them the information they want to hear. Its pretty simple, give them all the shit they need to write down on their little piece of paper and it is music to their ears. Besides that, let us get to the story. Now you see the two key people back in high school were “Mike” and “Connor” and they were it. They had the girls, the popularity, the friends. They both were the biggest athletes in the entire school. This is important because I wanted that, but I couldn’t have it. Call it jealousy or whatever but, who wouldn’t want people to look up at you and have their names written in the daily paper.
High school was a bitch for me. I never had many friends or any real ones at least. I was known as the weird kid but, whatever right. Everyone says high school is tough for everyone. I believe it. Life gets back at people who deserve it though. Now Mike was the quarterback of the football team and he knew everyone and everyone knew him. I one day sent him a message on Snapchat and said: “Hey Mike, I know you don’t know me but, I think you’re a cool guy.” He then replied with “Who are you? Whatcha want dickhead?” I told him “Nothing much man, just thought we could be friends or something, we’re in the same Spanish class.” He said, “Oh, cool your that kid that sits in the back right?” I said, “Yeah, what you doing?” He then said, “Nothing much man, listen I got a party next weekend with a free crib if you tryna come.” I then told him I’d let him know. This was perfect because I knew exactly what I would do. I planned on seeing Connor there with his girlfriend Liz. That was important because I hated seeing the way Connor would treat her. He just used her for sex and shit and never really respected her. I knew how I would fix that though, and it would be at that party.
Well, I got to the party and there were at least 50 kids there. I saw a couple of familiar faces but couldn’t care at all. I was there for one thing and one thing only. To ruin their relationship. Call me a dick but, he was way worse than me. I once saw Liz come into school with a bruise on her face and knew it was from him. I finally saw them out back near the pool. I had a plan. I would text Connor’s phone from a different number making it look like it was some other chick texting him and Liz would be right there to see it. I went outside and he was drinking, probably already drunk. I could see them from across the pool and haven’t seen Mike yet. I was about to text him and then Mike came up and tapped me on my shoulder with two drinks in his hand. He said “Yooo, Alex you came!” I laughed awkwardly and said, “Yeah man, wouldn’t miss it.” He said, “You want a drink?” Gesturing the second cup to me. I took it and said “Thanks, man.” He said, “I’ll see you around, there’s more beer in the kitchen.” He walked away and now I pulled my phone out. I went on to the app which I would text him from and texted: “Hey Connor, I had a really good night last night with a winkie emoji.” I then sent it waiting for Liz to look over his shoulder. She did and read the message. They started to argue and Liz poured his beer all over his face. My plan was working just right. I then saw Liz walk inside in a rush. I pretended to bump into her and said: “Oh my fault didn’t see you there.” She laughed and said, “Oh my god, it’s you, Alex.” I then laughed as well and said, “You good?” She replied with, “No actually, I just found out Connor was cheating on me with some slut.” I said “Oh, that blows … you want a ride home?” She said, “No I’m good, I’ll just have Grace drive me home.” I preceded with, “You sure, I live super close to here anyways, I was just about to go home too.” She said, “Ok, sure that’s fine.” I then got in my car and we started to talk. I said, “So, how’d you find out?” She said, “Some bitch texted him saying that they slept together last night.” I then said, “Damn, what’s your address by the way?” She then said something that surprised me. “I can’t go home like this, my moms gonna know I’m drunk and I’ll never be able to go out again.” I said, “Well, what you wanna do then?” She said, “Um, I don’t know .. we should go to a park.” I said, “Oh ok, what park?” She gave me the name and we went there. I parked my car in the parking lot and said: “Whatcha tryna do now?” She then said, “Shut up stupid.” Hushing my lips for me. We made out that night and I dropped her back off and went home as well.
That week in school I got a snap from Connor. It was during lunch and I clicked on it. I saw the five words that couldn’t make me happier: “I know what you did.” I replied with, “What? What did I do now?” He said, “you hooked up with Liz.” I left him on open and went about my day. I then saw him in the parking lot after school near my car. He came up to me and screamed in my face: “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST STEAL MY GIRL WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING?” I laughed right in his face and said, “Well, she isn’t with you anymore now, is she?” He then yelled: “Well, you think you’re just going to go about your day or something?” I said laughing, “Yeah, I was planning on going to Liz’s house after school.” He then jumped on top of me pinning me to the ground, socking me right in the jaw multiple times. I tried throwing some back but, he had my hands pinned to my side. He got up and said, “Fuck with her again and you won’t be getting up.” I got up with my nose bleeding and got into my car and went home.
That was 2 years ago and boy have I got my revenge. Let me start by saying I have no regrets about what I did. Everything I had done was for my satisfaction. You see I don’t care who’s life I ruin … as long as I get something out of it. Connor graduated high school with not much going for him. He had a job at a car dealership as a mechanic or something like that and never went to college. I never went to college so I won’t judge but, I had other plans after high school. I wanted to ruin Connor’s life, and I never stopped until I completed that process. It started with pretty small things like when I tried ruining his relationship back in high school. He was always a dick and who better to fuck with then a worthless piece of shit like Connor. I messaged him a couple of months ago saying: “Hey old friend … remember me?” He replied with “Yeah, the kid I beat the shit out of … I remember you.” I knew he would say something like this so, I sent him a picture of myself and his sister I photoshopped to look as if we were together. He replied with, “What the hell are you doing with my sister … she doesn’t date weird fucks like you.” I replied with, “Oh well looks like her type changed?” I was just sitting on my computer laughing my ass off from how gullible this kid was. He then messaged his sister Claire, which I thought he would do. “Are you dating a kid named Alex?” I had hacked into her phone which was pretty easy because I sent her a phishing email that looked like a women’s clothing company that I knew she had an interest in because of her Facebook. She clicked it and it then downloaded a key logger onto her phone which would send anything that was on her phone to me directly. I override it and replied as her saying: “Haha, yeah … me and him just started talking.” Everything that was being sent right now would delete as soon as I exited the software. I then texted him saying, “Claire is one beautiful woman, kind of reminds me of Liz…” He then said, “You know you’re a real dick you know ….” I said, “Haha the one who beat the shit out of their girlfriend in highschool right … I’m the dick.” I then said, “Hey how’s life going for you ... washing people’s cars ….” He replied with “Fuck you man … go do something with your time.” I ended the conversation with “Ok bud, I’ll let you know how she is in bed…” Now, this was just the first thing I would do to fuck with Connor’s life. A couple google searches for his name and I now had his address … He was still living with his parents at the time. I then went ahead and waited for him to get done work to order a couple of pizzas to his house and make him pay for them. A couple I mean by ordering 20 pizzas all with extra toppings. That was definitely a pricy delivery. A total of $300 if you want to round up. I called in and said I would pay in cash and my name was Connor; I gave the lady on the phone his address and it was as easy as that. You might be asking why I care so much to fuck with someone’s life … It’s easy, I get joy out of it. You see these were the baby steps to ruin someone’s life.
My next attempt would be going to a personal level. Connor had a laptop at home and I went ahead and hacked it. It was easy knowing how stupid he was. He would fall for anything. So I sent him an email that led him to a link that would automatically download a fake porn movie. He would run the download and I would then have access to everything on his computer. Everything. I had every username and password of every website he used including bank accounts, emails, videogames, documents, social media, and much more. I also could see what he was doing by his webcam which he never turned off. He also had a new girlfriend at the time and her name was Jessica or Jess for short. I planned on ruining their relationship too. One night I logged into one of his bank accounts to see what his balance was … It was $1,243.50. So I went ahead and requested a withdrawal to a website that would transfer it into bitcoin. I requested $500 to see if it would work without causing any attention. The transfer went through and I now had $500 in bitcoin. I went ahead and logged out and disconnected my VPN. I also knew Connors social because he had everything saved on his laptop like his passport, birth certificate, and social security. The next morning I drove over to his house and waiting for him to leave for the morning. I watched him get into his car from a street over and pull out of his driveway. He then sped off to the local bank, I proceeded to follow. I guess he found out $500 had been withdrawn from his account. After he was done in the bank he drove to Dunkin donuts. I then thought of an idea as he was inside. I got out of my car in the same parking lot and went over to his car and took my pocket knife out. I flipped it open and sliced his back tire open. I quickly got back in my car which was parked on the other side of the parking lot and waited for him to come out. He was pissed. I could tell because he just stood there and looked around trying to find the person who had done it. I sat in my car looking at him just snickering to myself. I was getting so much joy from watching him in anger. He took his phone out and called someone. He got back in his car and just sat there. I then saw another car pull in the parking lot about 15 minutes later. It was Jess. She pulled in and parked next to Connor’s car. He got out and sat in the front seat of Jessica’s car. I could care less now to watch so I went out of the back entrance and went back home.
I went onto my computer when I got home to open the software to view Connor’s laptop. I had a feeling that the bank would have told him to look for spyware on his computer when he got home so I made sure to get on before he could. I went ahead and deleted every traceable script that was linking the laptop to the RAT. I had scripted another code to perform as a startup manager which looked like windows software. It wouldn’t be picked up by antivirus so I just copied the RAT onto my new script and loaded onto his laptop remotely. I then went ahead and logged back onto his bank account and it was frozen. I wasn’t surprised. I thought they would have done something like this. I had a backup plan though. I went ahead and logged into his iCloud with his username and password which was conveniently saved from google. I searched for “Wheres my iPhone” and found where Connor was. I saw that he was at some apartment complex not far from me so I left my house and went there. It was dark out at this point and he was inside Jessica’s apartment. I parked my car and got out to search for his car. I took my jacket with me and wrapped it around my hand. I found his shitty old Honda just sitting there with a popped tire still. I took my knife which had a glass breaker and put it right against his window. It then cracked and I hit that window as hard as I could with my hand wrapped in my jacket. It broke and glass was everywhere. His car alarm was going off at this point so I had to do what I did next very fast. I looked inside his glove compartment and found his registration and insurance papers. I stuffed them in my pockets and looked through the center console. I found his wallet and a couple of condoms. I took his wallet and got the hell out of there. I sped out of the apartment complex and went back home fast, hoping no cops would see me.
I got back inside my house and looked inside Connor’s wallet. It had about $40 in cash and a little baggie of weed. There were credit cards in there as well. I had a perfect idea. I went onto a proxy and searched for the same bitcoin website I had recently been on. I went ahead and bought approximately $4,500 worth in bitcoin from every single credit card Connor had. I knew that this would destroy his credit score. I knew he wouldn’t be able to get an apartment with bad credit but, he was still living with his mom anyways. I now had extra resources to destroy Connor’s life. I knew that Connor wouldn’t be able to fix that broken window and most definitely wouldn’t be able to drive to work now because all of his papers to legally drive were now in my possession including his driver’s license. He had no money. I needed to move on with my next step to remove Jess from the equation.
I need to find a flaw in their relationship or something to exploit. I went ahead and completed my research on Jessica. Before I go on, I need to mention that Connor had now pulled the police into this. The bank and the police were now going to try and find out who had been messing with him. They won’t be able to find a link between the two. I know this for sure. Although knowing the police are involved it just made this game more fun. I like the attention that I am causing. Let me get back to what I had found on Jessica. What do you know? She was fucking with another dude. How do I know this you might ask? Well, I went ahead and looked around her Facebook and Instagram followers looking at mostly male followers. I ran a program that looked through her direct messages and found an account of another guy in the area. It looks like they went to the same high school. I looked through the messages and they were all flirts back and forth and she finally told him to message her on Snapchat. I, unfortunately, do not have access at this moment to look into her Snapchat messages but this is enough for now. I went ahead and took some screenshots of the messages and spoofed a text message to her saying “Looks like you got a little problem here don’t you?” Attaching the screenshots. She replied saying, “Who are you??? What do you want??” I simply replied back with “Oh nothing much, just pick who you want to keep … Connor is a dick anyway.” She replied, “You have no business in this … how did you even get into my messages?” I then said, “Don’t worry about it Jess, just tell Connor you guys aren’t working out anymore… and you won’t hear from me again.” A simple blackmail is all it took.
Guess he wasn’t really worth it. Never knew how to treat a woman right anyways. Now that Jess was out of the equation I could go ahead and proceed with ruining his life. I went ahead and called into his work. A lady picked up “Hello, [Name of car dealership] this is Lisa speaking, How may I help you?” I went ahead and said, “Ah yes, I recently had my car worked on here and I would like to make a complaint against one of your workers…” She replied with “Ok sir, and do you know the name of the employee?” I said, “Yes I do, Connor [last name]. I saw a scratch on the back of my car which looked like a key or something pulled the paint off. I saw this as soon as I got home from getting my car maintained on.” She said, “Ok sir, I will go ahead and mark down your complaint and we will handle it accordingly… if you would like you could come back so we can get more info from you and we could have someone take a look at the damage?’ I said, “No that won’t be necessary after what you guys have already done, thanks.” I then hung up the phone. I know that this will most definitely get him fired.
I called him a couple of days after this with a masked voice from software that changed my voice. He picked up and I said, “How’s life been? … Shitty let me guess.” He replied with “Can I ask who the fuck is calling? And why do you care how my life’s been?” I said “Maybe this would help … you missing that $4,500? … Lifes a bitch isn’t it.” He said, “You’re going to be arrested for stealing that money .. the police are looking into it.” I said “Oh, Connor I already know that … I’m three steps ahead of them already. I mean I guess Jess doesn’t want to date poor guys huh?” He said, “How the hell do you even know me … what do you want from me?” I said, “Connor go outside there’s a package for you and maybe a couple of your answers will be in there.” I hung up. Before calling him I made sure that a package with nothing except a USB was in there. It was meant to be plugged in and it would be erased within 1 hour of opening the contents … the contents were a txt file with the title of README.txt. It wasn’t a virus or anything it was just a document meant to be read. Once opened it would have a paragraph saying:
Hello Connor, the man that you were just speaking with knows everything about you and will not hurt you. You are playing the game of life. Its simple. You are a pawn in my game. I pick and choose what you do and how you do it. You may not see it but, everything that has been going on in your life the last couple of months has been of my choosing. I’ve been in the process of taking little bits of your life away. One by one. You see it all started back in high school when I took your little girlfriend away. I made her think you cheated on her. Easy. My next step would be to take away all of your money. Poof just like magic. All gone. Your credit is down the drain. The second step was to take away your transportation. No way to drive without any money. The broken window doesn’t help either. Or maybe no driver’s license. I then took your love life away. Jessica is no longer in your life. Well, maybe you might just go back to work to make more money …. Wrong you see. You no longer have a job. Don’t bother going in tomorrow because there was a report of you “damaging” a customer’s car. You may be reading this pretty upset because you have no way of fighting back. Well, that’s where I come in. I will give you a chance. In order to stop playing my game, I will send you an address and all you have to do is show up. Sounds easy? I hope so, for your own sake.
P.S: If you bring the police … the game ends differently. Not in your favor.
I was almost finished with Connor. I needed to do one more thing before I send him the address. I was never going to let him have an easy way out, no. I planned to make him go to a park that was at least an hour out of the direction. This would be a diversion away from his house so I could carry out my plan. I had recently bought with “Connors” money from the $4,500 that I converted into bitcoin approximately 4 kilos of crack cocaine. It would ship domestically so it wouldn’t be searched by customs. I then planned on having it shipped to a nearby drop zone which was an abandoned factory outside of town. I then would take this and put it into a backpack without putting my fingerprints on it. I then also had a USB that would boot up into the dark web which had all of Connors’s personal info like it was his. I also made the password his most commonly used password for the USB. This would link directly back to Connors’s local IP address which I had set onto the USB. I also remotely bought the drugs with Connors’s laptop. My plan here would be to send in an anonymous tip from a payphone to the local police station that there was a large package of crack cocaine shipped to Connors’s address. I also planted the baggie of weed which had Connors fingerprints on them in the back porch of his house. This would give the police probable cause to search the house for drugs. I would assume that they would have already brought a warrant but, just in case I had done that for precautionary reasons. This all would happen tonight. This is when I would successfully ruin Connor’s life. I would send him to prison for years. He would be sentenced with multiple felonies of drug possession and intent to sell. The large quantity that he would be possessing would give him no parol either.
I had the vendor on the dark web pack baggies of grams pre-bagged and one large quantity as well. This would give him the charge of intent to sell as well. The investigation would come down to that he purchased them from his laptop with his credit cards. Nothing would be traced back to me. I made sure of this because I had corrupted all of my hard drives back at home by microwaving them. There was no personal connection to Connor with me. So, I would not be looked into. I was just a kid from his high school with a thousand other students. I had no connection to anyone in his family either. I went ahead and sent him the name of the park through a random phone number I generated and said, “Connor you have 90 minutes to be here, or the game continues.” I was outside his house a street over waiting for him to leave. I saw him leave which was around 12:30 am and everyone was asleep in his house. I set a timer on my phone for an hour which was my time to plant everything and get out before Connor was home. I then went to his back porch and planted the baggie of weed at his bedroom window. He was stupid enough to leave his window open and I opened it and went inside his room. I had gloves on at this point before I left my car. I dropped the backpack inside his closet and plugged in the USB that I had prepared into his laptop which was sitting on his desk. I then left through his window locking it before stepping out. I made sure the weed was sitting nicely on the outside of his window. I then walked back to my car. I checked the timer on my phone and it was at 35 minutes. I knew he would be at the park before the timer was up. I went to a closed parking lot that I scoped out before planting the evidence which had a payphone. I called in and said, “392 [Street] there is a large number of drugs which is owned by Connor [last name]. I am sending this tip in and would like to keep it anonymous for my safety.” I hung up and left the parking lot immediately. On my way back home I got a text from Connor replying with “I’m here … what do you want me to do to end this stupid game?” I replied with “It easy … take your phone and throw it into the lake … You will receive your money back after this last task is done.” He said, “How do I know you’re going to follow through on your end?” I said, “If you don’t do it, you don’t get your money …you are a player of my game remember, you follow my rules and you can win.” I then sent another message saying, “Tomorrow check the balance of your bank, and all the money will be back where it rightfully belongs. Goodbye now.” This would be the last step in covering up everything I had messaged him. He is just playing every card I told him without even knowing. I then called the phone 5 minutes later to see if it connected me through. I called and it said, “The phone number you’ve dialed is no longer in service … please call back later.” My plan was now complete and Connor will be arrested within the hour. I got home and went to sleep without a problem. I woke up the next morning and turned the news on. The headline was “Breaking News: Man in local [county] was arrested last night for drug trafficking.” This was music to my ears hearing the lady speak about the details of the arrest and hearing her say Connor’s name. She said it like he was some criminal and boy did I love that. I looked up the details of the arrest on google and clicked on the first link. [Connor ****** arrested last night for drug traffiking] I saw his mug shot and it said under it that he could be sentenced up to 25 years and up to $20,000 in fines for intent to sell crack cocaine. This was the end of Connor’s free life. He was now a convicted felon and would never have his original life back. My game was now completed and he was the pawn to complete it.

Ethereum and Bisq

Hello all! This is a copy and paste reposting of something that I just now wrote about on the ethereum subreddit. As such it is mainly geared for an audience of regulars there, but my questions contained within also can fit into this subreddit, I think. My apologies for just copying and pasting, though.
Hello everyone, I am a (very) casual participant in crypto and I have a small amount of ethereum that is currently contained on a website account, and that I need to transfer to a wallet. After that, I then want to look at either selling the ethereum (or perhaps buying more) on Bisq. Some details:
(Forgive me if discussion and asking about Bisq is against the rules, here I used to frequent bitcoin and exchange talk is common there. I'm a newcomer for the most part to this subreddit. )

DONT LOSE YOUR TRX LIKE I DID😩

I wish I didn't do this mistake but I did, and even though nobody will blame anyone but me...
(I know I do for the most part, but I also partly blame Google)
You see I've been using tronlink in chrome for about a year now and I made around $130 from 20 dollars worth of bitcoin I got from coinbase earn program. AND I LOVE IT!
The only thing is the mnemonic keys that I struggle with, I used to store them on a USB, this wallet was no exception, recently I lost this USB due to becoming homeless for awhile and as stupid as I am I carried the USB in my jeans during a rainy winter. (My grandmother, mom and dad all offered me a place to stay so no worries guys) still had my old PC drive at my dad's house from selling it when I was tryna make some bank so I installed it a couple days ago and got back to grinding TRX, bought some BNKR daily+ and so on..
Anyways my girl was using my computer today for finding a part time since we both lost our jobs this year...
and signed in on her Gmail which made her gmail the standard gmail for the CHROME PROFILE(Note this!! Its the little circle next to the extensions in the chrome browser)
So I googled how to change this, I thought I would backup my private key once I was done, should've done it days ago but didn't think of it until today when she was messing around in my browser (Yes I got really nervous since she isn't very computer friendly 😂)
So I stumbled on Google's support tickets and a top answer told me to just delete the chrome profile and setup a new one since history and bookmarks would come back once I signed in...
(They didn't btw, you need sync activated for that, however when you remove the profile it doesn't say that, it just says that you can log on again and it comes back)
But here's where the warning comes in: IT ALSO REMOVES ALL EXTENSIONS! and it says itself that if you dont have your key you won't be getting your wallet back.
Some steps you can take to avoid this situation:
  1. Saving your key somewhere you can access it remotely, like in an email to yourself or in a private document on the cloud.
  2. If you're on windows backup the chrome "Users" folder in the appdata directory (a quick Google search will show you how)
  3. Turn on autobackup on your PC so you can revert the users folder if necessary.
  4. Write your key on a piece of paper and store it somewhere it won't move or be damaged, like a safe or with your mom like I did (she studied to be a lawyer so she's amazing with documents)
  5. Store your trx on binance so you can login using email and recover password if you lose your wallet.
Thanks for reading guys, if you wanna make my day you can donate anything to:
TPYLfp4Xv38Ji61uS2Cg9bV8p9fj1Wb1j8
TL;DR
If you remove your chrome profile on chrome and dont have a backup of anything you will lose your wallet! Your chrome profile is the circle next to the extensions in the chrome browser. (To be extra clear: its to the left of the three dots in the top right corner where you go to settings, history and stuff like that)
Thank you all for letting me be a part of this community and I promise I have 3 backups and stored my key in like 5 places so this won't happen again. I even made a backup of this post if I would accidentally close it 😂
Much love, peace! ❤
Edit: so I found the mnemonic phrases! Turns out I had them on my second drive aswell, but all it shows is 5 empty wallets, I've only had 3 wallets and I have 3 mnemonic phrases... what. The. ⁉️⁉️

Whatcha want dickhead?” I told him “Nothing much man, just thought we could be friends or something, we’re in the same Spanish class.” He said, “Oh, cool your that kid that sits in the back right?” I said, “Yeah, what are you doing?” He then said, “Nothing much man, listen I got a party next weekend with a free crib if you tryna come.” I then told him I’d let him know.

Air-gapped z-addresses; Is ZecWallet an option?

I've heard of Zcash for a while, but it wasn't until recently that I tried my hand playing around with the daemon and wallets.
Obviously, there's no point in using ZEC if you're only using t-addresses, but my desire for a z-address capable wallet certainly narrows the choice of wallets available to me.
Running a full node is no problem for me; I'd like to take advantage of a GUI if possible though. For that reason, I am drawn to ZecWallet's full node version. But I'm still uneasy when it comes to key security. (Can anyone share their experience with the ZecWallet paper wallet generator?)
From what I gather there is no wallet with HD support for t-addresses, is that right? Not much of a concern for me because I am interested in the shielded pool. I just figured t-addresses would support Electrum-style seeds but apparently not?
Sapling addresses seem to be exactly what I want; in particular I am drawn to their reusability and ability to export the view key. I was hoping this would ease the process of securing and backing up my private keys.
Here's my key handling protocol I use for Monero:
1) Generate the wallet on an air-gapped machine
2) This gives you a mnemonic seed. I write that down and keep it as an analog backup. By using a passphrase in conjunction with the seed, I can effectively encrypt this paper wallet easily.
3) Export the private view key and address to an online machine and make a watch-only wallet. This lets my watching wallet see incoming transactions
4) When outputs are received, I have to export the list of outputs to the air-gapped machine. The air-gapped machine uses this data to make signed key images.
5) I export the key images back to the watching wallet. At this point, the watching wallet can see outgoing transactions.
6) Now I can create unsigned transactions with the watching wallet, sign them in the air-gapped machine, and transmit them via the watching wallet using my full node.
The major benefit of using Monero in this way is that I only have to make a human-readable backup of my wallet once and I'm set for life.
Obviously, Zcash is going to be a little bit different. Since the core client doesn't give us mnemonic seed phrases, that complicates backup a little bit. What's the best way to back up ZEC? If I keep an up-to-date backup of my wallet.dat is that all I need? Is there an option in the wallet to encrypt this backup as well, or do I need to accomplish that externally with the likes of Veracrypt? I must admit the idea of unencrypted wallet data being written to my disk makes me uneasy.
I see that there is an option in zcash-cli to import/export the view key of Sapling addresses. However, I can't see the option to do so in ZecWallet, and when I do so manually via the CLI nothing seems to be reflected in ZecWallet.
Is ZecWallet by its very nature an obligatory hot wallet, or am I missing some functionality in the wallet?
My end goal is to run a ZEC full node on Qubes and hold my coins in z-addresses. Qubes allows me to make virtually air-gapped VMs to greatly simplify key management.
So for example when I use Bitcoin, I have a networked VM that runs a Bitcoind + Electrum Personal Server + Electrum Wallet stack, where I import my master public key. When I need to sign a transaction, I spin up a networkless VM equipped with Electrum and my private keys. Qrexec let's me easily ferry unsigned/signed transactions back and forth between the two VMs. Overall this provides a decent UX with above-average security and privacy. I'd like to port this general setup to Zcash.
To do so, I need a GUI wallet that supports both z-addresses and public/private key splitting. Does such a tool exist? (Can Electrum Personal Server be ported to ZEC?) If not, how can I streamline this process with the CLI?
I'm more familiar with Monero than Bitcoin, so the Zcash/Bitcoin CLIs are still a little foreign to me, though I am not "afraid" of CLI wallets in general. My Cryptonote muscle memory makes me prone to annoying little syntax errors I'd much rather do without.
My plan is to buy ZEC from Coinbase Pro, withdraw to a t-address, and then sweep my coins to a z-address. I want to monitor the balance of both t-addresses and z-addresses (and later send transactions) without ever exposing my private keys to the Internet.
However, it seems like the Zcash CLI is my only viable option for z-address watching wallets. Should I just play around on testnet until I get more familiar, or is there a GUI wallet solution out there that fits my needs? Does anyone have a cheat sheet for doing this via the CLI that could help me along the learning curve?
TL;DR New to Zcash, need advice as it relates to wallet backup, watching wallets, and z-addresses.
Assistance is much appreciated!
Edit: I don't suppose there's a way to use a Trezor Model T with a full node and or z-addresses?

FAQ for Beginners

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is scarce, decentralized, and global digital money that cannot be censored.

Quick Advice

  • Do not respond to strangers messaging you with investment advice or offers and read how to avoid being scammed from the posts below.
  • Do not invest in Bitcoin until you do basic research, paid off all high interest debt, and have a emergency savings account of a stable fiat currency.
  • If investing do not expect to get rich quickly. You should expect to wait at least 1-2 years before taking profits. Bitcoin is currently very volatile. In the interim spend and replace Bitcoin because its a useful currency.
  • Beginners should avoid all mining and day trading until at least very familiar with Bitcoin. Mining is very professional(You cannot efficiently mine with your computer and need to buy special ASIC machines) and most people lose money day trading.
  • Never store your Bitcoins on an exchange or web wallet. Buy your bitcoins and withdraw it to your personal wallet where you actually own them instead of IOUs. Services like Robinhood, Revoult, and Etoro should be avoided because you cannot withdraw or use Bitcoin.
  • Make sure you make a backup of your wallet(software holding keys to your BTC) and preferably keep it offline and physical and private. Typically 12 to 24 words you write down on paper or metal.
  • Beginners should avoid altcoins, tokens, and ICOs at least initially until they learn about Bitcoin. Most of these are scams and you should be familiar with the basics first. Bitcoin is referred to as BTC or XBT.

Where can I post this to get the discussion about it that I’m aiming for? I’ve already been permanently banned from threads and this is only my 5th post ever. I just want thoughtful discussion on important topics.

Save yourself some time and don’t read this. You’ll never get it, unless you do. In which case I hope you enjoy and think about what I’ve said. You may not agree with it all but you can’t deny it all either. The problem is that I’m right. So am I saying I think the vast majority of the world is wrong and I am right? Yes. It’s not easy to be right when most everyone else is wrong. You’re constantly misunderstood or dismissed. No I haven’t lost it. I’m totally sane. Maybe the most sane I’ve ever been. That probably sounds crazy and maybe it is but if this is crazy I don’t ever want to be sane again.
It’s all of it. It’s not just black or white it’s gray. It’s a mix of the major competing ideas and a cherry picking of the best of those ideas. It’s the new ideas that keep up with our time. There-in lies the solution to our problems. Compromise and use the best parts of the major competing ideas not just one or the other. Think about healthcare. We need both a public and private option. We can’t have just one. We need both. A public option for the poor or disenfranchised and a private option for the wealthy and those who can afford to get private insurance. Wet markets and factory farming will be the death of us if we don’t outlaw that shit worldwide as soon as possible. Yes this means less meat in our diets. Look at the data. This is actually good for us. Take climate change. We can’t just stop using fossil fuels tomorrow. We need to phase them out while figuring out how much we can burn without negatively effecting our environment and then allowing the poorest countries to continue using fossil fuels in the interim while they grow their economies to prearranged milestones where they must phase in renewables. Take capitalism. Our society’s trade platform. It must be a mix of capitalism with restraints and restrictions strategically implemented to thwart the worst parts of greed, corruption and pollution. Along with a public option for healthcare and education. It’s socialism and capitalism meshed together. Republican or Democrat? We need a third option. The ruling party. The party that uses the best parts of both ideas and dumps the junk bunk bullshit that drags us down. The tie breaking vote cast in favor of either side, whenever it is they happen to have the better idea. This ruling class is called the Digerati. Not my term. They need to be the deciding voice of reason because they see the world for what it is. They are already silently leading the world. They are the Facebooks the Googles the Microsofts the Ubers the Teslas. I could go on. The Expedias the Amazons, you get the point. They have seen that digital technology trumps old analog technology in almost every industry. They have come in and dominated the old with the new. Taking voting for instance. We need to offer all viable options to increase voter turnout and opportunity. That means in-person, mail-in, Internet, and smartphone via blockchain. Putin will rule us all if we don’t band together against him. Hopefully I’m wrong there and his overreach will be the death of him, but that’s for time to tell. It’s not just religion or atheism and nothing in between. It’s spirituality. No not the traditional Christian soul “spirit” bullshit. Nothing supernatural in the standard sense. It’s the interconnectedness of everything down to a basic atomic level that binds all things. The problem also lies in our broken criminal justice system and the for-profit prisons that lobby to keep it that way. It’s the NRA and the gun lobby stopping us from having common sense gun law and closing the purchase and tracking loopholes. It’s the corrupt gang of thugs called the police who kill innocent people on the regular with seemingly no ramifications. It’s the irrational and crooked stock market putting this false face on the economy but we don’t have any other simple numbers to base the complexity of the economy on so we deal with it. We let these Wall Street crooks live in their ivory towers laughing at us. Selling us bits of 1’s and 0’s in the cloud somewhere that we never actually own. If we did they’d give us all our proportion of the profits equivalent to the shares we own. It happens but rarely. It’s just as bullshit as the concept of paper money backed by the Fed and nothing else. Even gold, what’s that worth anyway? Seems to me something is only worth its weight in what it can do or provide. Gold has its uses and therefore has value but it’s still an inflated illusion. Not that bitcoin isn’t based on a similar illusion but it’s far superior to paper money. More important than just bitcoin is the blockchain technology itself. This is going to change the way we do everything. All the big companies and leaders already know what’s coming. It’s going to change banking, voting, critical infrastructure security, contract law, stock trading, real estate, healthcare, supply chain management, music and entertainment property rights and IP etc etc etc. I could list 40-50 major industries that will be impacted in a huge way by blockchain. All technology is growing faster and faster. Exponentially so. So fast we can’t comprehend it. The growth of AI and the invention of bitcoin are changing the world so fast you can’t even see it. My point is it’s all going to change very fast. This country is not long for this world if we don’t make some massive changes, and I mean quickly. No more assholes like Trump ever can be elected to such high offices. Never let the stupid overtake the enlightened again because of technicalities. All these crooked politicians need to go to jail. For life. To set the example for all time. This bullshit will not be tolerated. The Constitution has failed us. Just look at the dysfunction in the Congress and Senate and now the White House. We’ve had some clowns in office before but nothing this extreme. China is going to overtake the USA in digital and cryptocurrency as they are embracing the technology far more. Bitcoin is coming for your wallets so you better get onboard or get left behind. New digital millionaires and billionaires are being minted daily. The world is becoming increasingly more dangerous every day. The poor and the left-out are growing in numbers and it’s only going to get worse. Those who can see, I mean truly SEE what’s going on, will rule the world. Those who don’t see it will be pushed further and further down out of the middle class and into poverty. This is going to create great disparities of wealth beyond anything the world has seen in quite some time. Think India’s caste system on steroids. So what can we do? We can embrace the future. We get as much bitcoin as we can get our hands on as soon as possible before only the elite have access to one whole bitcoin. Don’t pick up the scraps. Make your own way now. Don’t let the asshats rule the world. The Trumps the Putins the Bolsonaros and the Boris Johnsons of the world can’t be left in power. They are destroying everything we know and love. There are major political changes happening right now that will negatively impact all of our lives. They are the fault of McConnell, Trump, all the judges he’s appointed, and the entire Republican establishment. The Democrats are only marginally better. We need to throw out our failed institutions and start over with lessons learned. We need to actually make a real separation of Church and State. No more muddy water. No more bullshit child rape organizations like the Catholic Church allowed to claim tax free status and then take PPP Loans from our tax dollars. If they are a business that can receive PPP then they can be taxed like one. And why isn’t the Pope in jail. If I was the lead architect for covering up thousands of child rapes you can bet your ass there would be an international warrant for my arrest but instead he’s treated like a top celebrity and revered by some as next to “God”. There is a better way. Now is the time to move forward with plans to right the ship. Arguably there has never been a better more apropos time than now. This pandemic has pushed our country to the brink of failure. We also probably need to think about a backup plan. A plan to create a new country with those who understand what’s really happening. I’m not sure what exactly that looks like. Maybe we secede California or Texas from the union. Maybe we let Bezos buy an African country and pay all of its citizens handsomely to leave. Then from there we start a new world order. Yes, I said new world order. The term we’ve all been taught to fear our whole lives. What does the status quo have to be so scared of that it’s brainwashed us all to be scared at the mention of a new world order. That idea is obviously huge and has its own complications. I’m not talking about microchipping everyone either. I’m talking about real freedom. We’ve given up our liberty in pursuit of safety. We given up honest governance in place of partisan wins. I don’t pretend to know the ultimate answer to all things. Just the formula. There are multiple possibilities. I don’t think there is only one way to skin this cat. We can get to the same outcome via many routes as long as the mission is clear. Do what makes the most logical sense and will actually work verses what is politically expedient. Be the solution.

Move Paper Wallet To Secure Long-Term Solution

Hi, I got into Bitcoin mining a long time ago, eventually sold half my coins and kept half on a paper wallet made from a popular online wallet service. For a few reasons I want to move this to a modern and secure way to store the coins.
My idea is to make a VM on my Macbook in VMware of macOS and keep it virtually "air gapped" by uninstalling the virtual network card and disallowing copy & paste as well as shared folders. On this VM install the Electrum software as the main wallet and generate a new public and private key pair. Export the wallet in encrypted form and store on a NAS as well as AWS S3. Print the mnemonic (12 word backup phrase? I assume Electrum can help with this?) and store in a safe at home. Buy a Ledger Nano X or Nano S and hook up to this air-gapped wallet, so this would basically be a second backup, and could be used to spend the coins without the use of the air-gapped VM.
Then install the Electrum software on my actual Macbook's user-space, import the public key and the private key from the legacy Bitcoin address on the paper wallet (yeah, long-time old paper wallet...) and send all the coins to the air-gapped wallet address, set up as a watch-only address on this Electrum client. Basically use this to empty all the coins from the old legacy address to the new address generated on the air-gapped computer.
Does this sound safe/sane? Am I missing something/is there a better or easier way? Any experience with the Ledger Nano X/S and is it actually trustworthy?
I really appreciate feedback on this. It has been a _looooong_ time and the BTC world has changed a _lot_.

1. Masternodes In fact, the term hides servers with a certain number of blocked coins. They are constantly online and sign blocks. The reward is rewarded in the coins of the network. Creating a masternode is an expensive process that is not accessible to every investor. Everyone who wants to set up a masternode must go through a kind of financial selection - to buy a large number of cryptocurrencies. The amount determined by the rules of the network is frozen on the wallet of the owner of the masternode. It is worth noting that the freezing of a significant amount of funds in little-known cryptocurrencies can cause serious losses, primarily due to the volatility of the cryptocurrency market, and secondly, low liquidity when selling, that is, it can be traded on an exchange with a trading volume of $ 10 (at an acceptable price to you price). Analyze information on bitcointalk and other cryptocurrency forums in order to know how the project is developing. Or you will be engaged not in investments, but in the game of roulette. Since the rate of most cryptocurrencies can change by hundreds of percent during the year, it is almost impossible to calculate the future yield of the masternode in dollars. Investors can only focus on the current profit paid to the owners of the main nodes in various cryptocurrencies.
Regardless of the selected cryptocurrency, setting up a masternode is reduced to sequentially performing 3 steps:
Configuring software for the masternode to work on a remote server.
Buying a sufficient amount of cryptocurrency and sending it to your own wallet tied to a masternode.
Start masternode.
Reliable requirements are placed on the reliability of masternodes: The server must be available 24/7, only insignificant periods of disconnection from the network are allowed (several hours a year). A node needs a dedicated IP address to operate. The speed of the Internet connection should be constant, without significant drawdowns. Ensuring the fulfillment of these conditions in your home or apartment is quite difficult. The user will need to connect a dedicated IP, constantly keep ready a backup communication channel and provide uninterrupted power to the computer in case of a power outage. In practice, it is much simpler and cheaper to rent a virtual server (VPS) or use the services of specialized hosting services that offer their help in setting up a masternode. The unpredictability of the cryptocurrency rate is the main danger in creating a masternode. A prolonged market downturn can significantly increase the payback period. The popularity of the currency also affects the profitability of the masternode: the more transactions go through the blockchain, the higher the reward for the owner of the node.
When choosing a masternode, you should pay attention to the following parameters:
1. How long a project is on the market - the more the better. Coins that were created less than a year ago should be treated with caution, however, they just provide the opportunity to receive super-profits. 2. Capitalization - the higher the better. 3. ROI - return on investment. This term defines the return on investment for a certain period of time. It is better to calculate it yourself, since monitoring services try to impress investors and calculate it for short periods of time, including one day, which does not make sense at all. 4. The dynamics of changes in the price of coins. The yield of a masternode may have little or no effect on the outcome of an investment if the price of a coin changes regularly and exhibits an unclear long-term trend. Be sure to analyze the behavior of the value of the coin over the past few months. It is desirable that it be stable and change in accordance with the behavior of Bitcoin. In addition, the changes should be smooth. 5. Developers Examine the team representatives and their past achievements. It is desirable that the developers already had some kind of worthwhile product. At a minimum, they should not be implicated in all kinds of scam schemes - this will partially exclude the possibility of manipulating coin prices or the banal disappearance of the project.

The primary exchange offer, IEO is a variant of ICOs managed directly by cryptocurrency exchanges. In the ICO, investors buy tokens in order to benefit from an increase in the value of the asset, or to access the platform services. In STO, investors invest their money in order to receive dividends, an influx of finance or a voting right that is directly tied to a security. Where can I post this to get exposure and feedback? I’ve been banned from big threads already and this is my 4th post on Reddit ever. I just want to start the discussion.

Peercoin v0.9 Released!

We are pleased to announce that after many hard months of work, Peercoin v0.9 (Codename Strider) is complete and a hard fork is planned for Monday, June 8th, 2020 at 12:00:00 UTC. You must upgrade your wallet client before then!

Changelog:

Peercoin release v0.9.0
  • RFC-0019: PoW Block Spacing
  • RFC-0018: PoS Rewards Adjustment
  • RFC-0017: Limit Effective Coinage to One Year
  • RFC-0015: Reduce Time Drift
  • allow staking=0 command to disable minting
  • ability to filter out mint transactions in the QT wallet

Summary

While Peercoin v0.8 (Mantis) was largely about modernizing the codebase and improving the technical capabilities of the reference node software, the v0.9 (Strider) development cycle was about the economics of the Peercoin cryptocurrrency.
Both the PoW and PoS aspects of the network have been modified. Proof-of-Work changes are rather minimal; in summary target block spacing has been set to 60 minutes, rather than having dynamic PoW block spacing target. Block spacing is currently approximately 60 minutes anyway, so this may not sound like a big change, but it stops some PoW pools from trying to game the system. By making PoW more predictable, RFC-0019 brings inflationary stability to the overall system.
That change is minor when compared to the modification of the Proof-of-Stake side of the system. Some of you may have been following the discussion on RFC-0011, which was ongoing for over a year, and you may have noticed that RFC-0011 was rejected about two weeks ago and replaced with RFC-0018.
In my personal opinion, RFC-0011 is a great idea, probably the best idea thrown around here in the last couple of years, but ultimately it's too complex and we could not get consensus about it. The gist of both RFC-0011 and RFC-0018 is that the Peercoin money supply inflates at a rate of 1% on paper, but we are nowhere near that in practice.
In the old system, in order to have PoS inflation at 1%, a full 100% of all peercoins would have to start minting and solving blocks. This is simply impossible. In reality, over the last couple years Peercoin's PoS inflation has only been between 0.10% and 0.20%, which is far from the "promised" annual 1%. Due to the very rough history of this beautiful blockchain, namely the closure of btc-e, dozens of exchange hacks and closures, as well as a couple of de-listings, we are in a situation today where nearly half of the monetary supply has not been moved for over two years and we can consider those coins lost for all intents and purposes.
The basic principle of RFC-0011 was the following: the Peercoin network promises a steady inflation of 1% on monetary supply, and if you want a cut of it: mint. In essence, if only 20% of all peercoins are minting, the effective reward for active minters would be closer to 5% per year. However, the problem with this scheme is that minters would try to game the system and only mint when minting participation is low. Thus, we came up with RFC-0018, which yields similar results, but keeps the reward calculation simple and prevents gaming of the algorithm. You can read more about the change here.
Long story short, the network will reward active minters more, while keeping the overall inflation around 1%.
Accompanied with an expected inflation drop from increasing PoW hashrate, overall monetary inflation will largely remain unchanged, and will be more stable.
Other changes are minor and do not change the behavior of the network. RFC-0017 is just a consequence of RFC-11, and it stops minters from going offline for longer than a year and coming back to mint. We did not see this as fair, so the coinage counter is reset after a year now. Limiting coinage disincentivizes extremely long term periodic minting, thereby making continuous minting more attractive.

Giving bitcoin as a gift

I'm looking to give some bitcoin to my family as a gift, and I was wondering as to the best way to do this. In particular, an ideal method would:
  1. be easily accessible to the recipient without a lot of setup/knowhow
  2. give them a reasonably secure way to store the bitcoin, and
  3. not have the private key known, even to me.
I've thought of getting them a hardware wallet, but I don't want them to have to spend half an hour setting it up and writing down backup seeds. I've also considered a paper wallet, but that is insecure for a number of reasons, and I'd really rather not have them directly handling private keys.
An ideal solution would be if I could somehow store BTC in a temporary wallet, which they could automatically send to theirs by entering a one-time code. I don't know if there is any way to do this though.
Any advice is appreciated!

Your Guide to Cryptocurrency Wallets

Your Guide to Cryptocurrency Wallets

In order to use cryptocurrencies, a potential user must have a cryptocurrency wallet. But what is a cryptocurrency wallet? What role does it play in securing your cryptocurrencies?
A cryptocurrency wallet, to put it simply, is a digital medium used to buy, send, receive and spend digital currencies, such as Bitcoin and any other supported altcoins or tokens. Users can view their cryptocurrency balances and make transactions using a cryptocurrency wallet.
How Does it Work?
Note that since cryptocurrencies are virtual currencies that runs on the blockchain, wallets are created not to contain or store cryptocurrencies but to act as a medium for the user to interact within the blockchain. A wallet generates and holds both private and public keys that allows users to access their cryptocurrencies conveniently.
Confused?
Imagine a vault. Storage vault helps secure things conveniently and securely. The same goes for a cryptocurrency wallet. It acts as a storage of both private and public keys, which are needed for any cryptocurrency transactions.
Each wallet gives its users a unique account number more popularly known as a wallet address. A public key is used to generate a unique wallet address. Wallet addresses are simplified versions of public keys and a combination of randomly generated upper and lowercase letters, and numbers. Just like normal bank accounts, a wallet address can be shared with other people to receive cryptocurrencies.
Sample of a BTC Address:
1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa
Private keys, on the other hand, serves as the password or verification code of the user’s cryptocurrency transactions. It gives users access to the actual funds they have on the blockchain. Unlike public keys which can be shared publicly, private keys MUST ALWAYS be kept safely by the user. So, if the user unlucky losses his public key or address, it can always be retrieved given that he still has the private key.
Cryptocurrency wallets let users view their existing balances and move cryptocurrency funds (such as buying and selling cryptocurrencies) on the blockchain system using these keys. A public key is only tied to one private key, meaning only the user can verify the transactions within his or her wallet.
Types of Cryptocurrency Wallet
Wallets can be classified into two categories: hot wallets and cold wallets. A hot wallet is a wallet connected to the internet while cold wallets are not. Under these categories are various cryptocurrency wallet types, namely, paper wallets, hardware wallets, and software wallets.
Selecting a specific type of wallet depends on the needs of each individual as every wallet has different functions and features. Some wallets are made for only a single cryptocurrency, while some offer more than one coin or altcoins.
Paper Wallets
Paper wallets are cold wallets wherein public and private keys are printed out in a sheet of paper (usually in a QR code form). This is not connected to any servers, and the only way to access it is to enter the key into any software wallet or scan the QR code. Open source services are available online to create the keys locally on your computer or device. This means that the data is not sent over the internet, leaving it safe and secure (considering that your device is virus-free and malware-free). Since these wallets are printed out, users must keep it carefully to avoid any theft by losing it.
Hardware Wallets
Hardware wallets are dedicated electronic devices (like USB) that stores a user’s private and public keys. It uses a Random Number Generator (RNG) to generate public and private keys. Users need to plug-in their device in any computer or laptop with an installed program that lets users do transactions.
Software Wallets
This kind of wallet comes in three different forms, namely, web, desktop, and mobile wallets. The similarity with these forms is they are all connected to the internet.
Web Wallet
Web wallets allow users to access blockchains through the use of any web browser without installing anything. Though they are more convenient to access, it can be vulnerable to hacking attacks and theft.
Desktop Wallet
Desktop wallets are downloaded and installed on a specific computer or laptop. It gives users full control over their keys and funds. Ensuring that the computer is free from any viruses or malware before and during the wallet is installed helps remove the possibility of any malicious hacking attempts.
It is important to regularly backup the desktop wallet and private keys in order to access this wallet in case the computer or laptop in which the wallet is installed malfunctioned.
Mobile Wallet
Like its desktop counterpart, a mobile wallet runs in a smartphone using a mobile application. These are considered more convenient than the desktop wallet as it can technically be used anywhere and everywhere with the use of the mobile phone.
Most of the coins or tokens available in the market have their own wallet. In the case of Swipe Token (SXP), it has its very own Swipe Wallet app which runs on the Ethereum blockchain. The Swipe Wallet application supports multiple types of cryptocurrencies where users can buy, send, and spend it instantly within the app.
Having a cryptocurrency wallet is an essential part of managing cryptocurrency funds. By using a wallet, users can easily send and receive cryptocurrency funds. On which kind of wallet is safe to use, it really depends on the needs of each individual. Each type of wallet has a unique function which is why it is important to identify your needs before getting a specific type of wallet.
