Any interest in a HFT and backtesting platform for GDAX?

I'm building out the tech infrastructure required for analyzing a GDAX bitcoin order book and executing/simulating trades based on it in real-time. Doing it for myself for now, as the only bots and data sets I found were for trading based on historical ticker price only, not with actual order book data. With a little more effort, I can expose the simulation engine through a web interface. I'm just hoping to gauge the interest before I do. Are there folks here who would like to test out some order book dynamics algos on GDAX markets?
Edit: Some tech details
Happy to answer more questions as they come.
Edit #2:
Cool, looks like people would be interested in poking around! I'll get a Github repo up as soon as it's ready, along with a web interface to mess instantly try it out, Quantopian-style. In the meanwhile, plz continue posting or PMing if interested. Also, I'm full of questions for existing traders. I would love to hear about existing algo trading platforms ya'll have experience with. Any killer features, or limitations, you ran in to? Are there common APIs for strategy construction I should conform to? (For now, I've been using a simplified Zipline-like API)

INTRODUCTION

According to wikipedia, Blockchain is originally known as bloc chain, It is a growing list of records known as blocks which is linked using cryptography, each of these blocks contain a cryptographic hash of the initial block, a transaction data and a time stamp.
Since its emergence in the year 2008, when Nakamoto satoshi discovered and introduced bitcoin, there has been serious efforts to integrate the blockchain technology into several aspects of various process of global business , The blockchain technology has been described as having the potential to disrupt many industries with immutability, low-cost transaction, and enhanced maximum security. So many other blockchain implementations have been deployed and developed with unique features designed to specific use-cases.
The blockchain technology has made possible to issue assets through a distributed ledger framework. With cryptocurrency tokens, Assets can be given economic value in order to validate and initiate transactional processes.

ADVANTAGES OF BLOCKCHAIN:

  1. Decentralised payment processing,
  2. Creating an immutable system of recording,
  3. Reducing Cost of Transaction and
  4. Enhanced Security.
  5. Now that we have reminded ourselves of what blockchain technology is, let’s look into the subject matter.

Masternode and Proof of Work X11 Blockchain
Wolfcoin Blockchain with X11 Proof of Work Mining and Masternode Reward Systems The Wolfcoin blockchain and network are both designed and engineered to ensure store of value, transactional speed and security, and fungibility. The main goal of the Wolfcoin blockchain is to facilitate fast and secure transactions with a governance that helps sustain the network for the benefit of all users. The Wolfcoin blockchain is a two-tier network comprised of a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism powered by miners and a Proof of Service (PoSe) system powered by masternodes.
The Wolfcoin blockchain is secured through Proof of Work (PoW) in which miners attempt to solve difficult problems with specialized computers. When a problem is solved, the miner receives the right to add a new block to the blockchain. If the problem was solved correctly, the miner is rewarded once the block is added.
The second tier, which is powered by masternodes, enables Wolfcoin to facilitate private and instant transactions with Private Send and Instant Send. Masternodes are also rewarded when miners discover new blocks.
The block reward is distributed with 80% going to the masternodes and 20% going to miners. The masternode system is referred to as Proof of Service (PoSe), since the masternodes provide crucial services that support the features of the network.
Masternodes also oversee the network and have the power to reject improperly formed blocks from miners. If a miner tried to take the entire block reward for themselves, the masternode network would orphan the block ensuring that it would not be added to the blockchain.
In short, miners power the first tier, which is the basic sending and receiving of funds and prevention of double spending. Masternodes power the second tier, which provide the added features that make Wolfcoin different from other cryptocurrencies. Masternodes do not mine, and mining computers cannot serve as masternodes.
Additionally, each masternode is “secured” by 10,000 WOLF. Those WOLF remain under the sole control of their owner at all times. The funds are not locked in any way; however, if enough of the funds are moved or spent to cause the user’s holdings to drop below 10,000 Wolfcoin, the associated masternode will go offline and stop receiving rewards.
By pre-ordering your WolfpackBOT subscription, you will also receive Wolfcoin as a reward that can be utilized in the following ways:
  • Redeemable for WolfpackBOT subscriptions
  • Redeemable for the WolfBOX Console
  • Redeemable for WolfpackBOT and Wolfcoin apparel and merchandise
  • Fungible utility that can be exchanged for like value on exchanges
When you hold at least 10,000 Wolfcoin in your Wolfcoin wallet connected to a static IP address, you will become a masternode, meaning you will have a chance to receive 80 percent of the block reward every sixty seconds.

INTRODUCTION

Cryptocurrency is essentially digital money traded from one person to another through the use of pseudonyms. There are no intermediaries like banks, no governmental oversight or authority, and no fees. The “crypto” in cryptocurrency refers to the use of cryptography to ensure the security and privacy of every transaction.
New coins are created through a technique called mining. The process requires powerful computers that solve complex math problems. Each problem should take about 10 minutes to solve, and results in the creation of a predetermined number of coins. The total number of coins that can be created is fixed — there’s a limit of 21 million bitcoins that can be created. The number of coins rewarded for solving each problem dwindles as time goes on.
Bitcoin is believed to have been created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto, an enigmatic figure who has so far proven all but impossible to definitively identify. By using cryptography to control the creation and tracking of a digital currency, Nakamoto took that power away from central authorities like governments.
Bitcoin was the first and most famous digital currency, but you can choose from more than 1,500, including ether, litecoin and even cryptokitties. For awhile, you saw these currencies only in the darkest corners of the internet, where people used them for all sorts of questionable, even illegal, activities. Drug dealers liked them because they made transactions all but invisible, and trolls at the Kremlin-backed Internet Research Agency used bitcoin to finance their campaign to influence the 2016 election.
That started to change in 2014, when Overstock became the first major US retailer to accept bitcoin. Companies like Expedia and Microsoft followed suit.
One of the biggest misconceptions about cryptocurrencies is that you need thousands of dollars to invest. It’s an easy assumption to make, especially in the case of bitcoin, which stayed under $1,000 from about 2010 to 2017. But then it took off, surpassing thousand-dollar milestones at a pace that seemed quicker than you could refresh your phone.
The staggering value is off-putting to many. But unlike most stocks, you can buy a fraction of a bitcoin so you don’t need thousands to get into the crypto game.

User security and API key protection holds a high priority within the WolfpackBOT framework which is why it is the only trading bot that gives users full control with local management of their API keys.

"Capitulation": Nomura Explains What Is Behind The Market's "Freak Out"

On Monday morning, when the market's moves were still relatively orderly, Nomura's Charlie McElligott made a prescient observation why momentum stocks were getting slaughtered, and why the "_value to growth"_rotation was about to leave hedge funds with even greater losses.
To those who listened and unwound, congrats, because on Tuesday, with the Dow down almost 600 points at its lows, McElligott writes that the cross-asset markets de-risking continues, which somewhat surprisingly is occurring in conjunction with a collapse in market expectations for 2019 Fed implied hikes, down to just 31.5bps.
This is a clear shift in market sentiment, because even as the market prices in a dovish Fed, stocks are getting crushed.
This "Best is Behind Us” / “Fed has tightened us into a slowdown” view is entrenching itself alongside the weekend escalation of Trade War Cold War between China and US, which is clearly now bleeding into the supply-chain and broad sentiment, the Nomura strategist writes today and notes that signs of capitulation are visible across the asset spectrum, as "VaR-down" behavior becomes apparent via new local- and multi-year lows/wides being made, with the credit blow out accelerating and HYG down for 8 days in a row (the record is 9).
_**VaR-down with liquidation of "longs" and 100-500bps of outperformance from shorts:
_Meanwhile, contrary to what JPM suggested recently when it saw no further selling pressures in the quant space, yesterday’s US Equities Momentum factor unwind (with the market-neutral strategy -3.5% on session) **was a 1st %ile event dating back to 1983, with the selloff of “Momentum Longs” (-4.5%) in particular was a 0%ile move, i.e., extremely rare.
What happened was that as hedge fund liquidations continue, whether due to redemption requests or otherwise, uber-crowded longs in the US Software industry were being liquidated according to McElligott, with GS basket of Software Cos trading 8x’s EV / Sales -10.0% on the day, an impossible -8.7SD move across all returns in its 2.5 yr history; Elsewhere, S&P Tech was -3.8%, Russell 2k Tech -4.6%; Finally, the Nomura strategist notes, or rather warns, that Nasdaq 100 30d volatility sits at 35, the highest level since late 2011, which just means more mechanical “VaR-down” is coming for these “longs”.
Going back to today's market, here are some additional observations from McElligott:
So what is the root cause behind this seemingly relentless market freakout?
To McElligott, the answer is the theme where “tighter financial conditions” bleed across and reset (lower) risk-asset term premium—is picking-up steam, ESPECIALLY now that the Fed’s pivot to a “softer tone” perversely acts to “confirm” the market’s multi-month “tightening ourselves into a slowdown” worst fears.
Here, after markets were spooked by Powell's Octoebr 3 line that policy is "a long way from neutral", over the past week, multiple Fed speakers seemingly attempted to “walk-back” the hawkishness of that comment with a more moderate data-dependent tone, with Powell himself acknowledging last week that the Fed is “…well aware of” the three key challenges to growth in 2019—fading fiscal stimulus, slowing demand abroad and the lagged-impact of the prior policy normalization.
Two days later, the "tantrum-ing" market then further seized on Vice Chair Clarida’s Friday commentary where he “moved the goalposts” of Powell’s October “…long way from neutral” statement, instead saying “…I think being at neutral would make sense”—which to McElligott was "effectively a RATE CUT with regards to prior forward expectations" as we discussed yesterday.
But instead of being a “dovish relief story,” it instead did the opposite in the minds of investors who are seemingly committed to pulling-forward the “end of the cycle” trade.
Meanwhile, as tighter financial conditions / higher interest rates eventually slow the real economy (see yday’s NAHB sentiment collapse / “miss”), Charlie's thesis continues to expect timing of said slowdown coming after the March 2019 hike, "at which point I believed the market would “sniff” said slowdown and thus REMOVE HIKES from the front-end as the Fed would be forced to “pause”—in turn, steepening the curve."
Instead, some in the market are pulling-forward this “end of cycle” view into the NOW, which is being exacerbated by already ugly performance and year-end illiquidity / dealer balance sheet “tightness” leading to capitulatory behavior—with the concurrent volatility in-turn is nuking legacy QE-era “curve flattening” derivative trades, i.e. the consensual U.S. Equities “Growth over Value” positioning
And, as the Nomura strategist has said before, this Trasury curve _bull steepening_would act as the ultimate “end of cycle” risk-off signal, telling traders that we were at the end of Fed policy normalization—because growth trajectory is decelerating, fiscal stimulus impacts are rapidly diminishing, financial conditions are net / net “tighter” and that policy has approached the level where it is no-longer “stimulative”
Which brings us to McElligott's conclsion, in which he notes that "in the sense that I still believe that in this current state the Fed will hike two more times (Dec18 and Mar19) before the “gig is up,” I am surprised that the market is taking this current (and still somewhat modest Fed language shift reversal) as THE “Fed pause / slowdown” cue; but regardless of the timing-scenarios, the risk now is that the market de-risking only FURTHER acts to tighten financial conditions (especially in Credit) while bleeding sentiment further in a vicious cycle."
Finally, adding insult to injury is the mega Fed balance-sheet shrinkage tomorrow, when $27.1BN of combined Treasuries and MBS- mature, acting to further “tighten” financial conditions.
And, as a bonus, for any funds still desperate to position themselves, here is McElligott's take on how to position in Growth vs Value during this turbulent period:
Growth LONGS are “expensive stuff” that gets CRUSHED at the end of cycles because they will see the largest cuts in forward EPS—and we’re seeing said “revisions lower” within “Growth LONGS” in real-time
Only later then does “Value” get the additional kicker from “Value LONGS,” as after we hit slowdown / recession, the market begins to price-in the next Fed EASING cycle, and these primarily “economically sensitive” stocks see the highest re-weighting / benefit to the rate cuts through their cyclicality
This is not going to be a “linear” path; there are periods where both Growth- and Value- can work—however, I believe that relatively speaking, Value continues to outperform over the next 1Y window, continuing its enormous outperformance QTD:
  • Value:Dividend Yield +11.5% QTD; EBITDA / EV +11.0% QTD; Predicted E/P +7.8% QTD; E/P +7.8% QTD; Dividend Payout +6.5% QTD; B/P +5.6% QTD; Sales / Price +5.6% QTD; Cash Flow / EV +3.1% QTD
  • Growth:Predicted 1Y EPS Growth -9.8% QTD; Predicted LTG -8.4% QTD; Sales Growth -5.1% QTD; 5Y EPS Growth -2.4% QTD; PEG -2.2% QTD
THE PURGE—“MOMENTUM” CAPITULATION AS “GROWTH LONGS” SEE LIQUIDATION BEHAVIOR TO THE BENEFIT OF “VALUE” FACTOR MARKET-NEUTRAL: Look at the contrast in the Q1 “peak QE-era” to the current QTD “peak QT-era…

Thinking about pulling out - maybe I'm just not any good at this?

So I first bought in to BTC back in November during the big ramp up. I bought my first two and a half or so coins ($500 worth) at around $223 each and giddily sold at around $330 for a tidy ~$200 profit. What easy money!
I didn't really pay attention again until the end of the month, when the price had hit $1200 or so (on Coinbase, at least, which was where I was moving fiat in). Completely oblivious at that point and time to MACDs, Stochastic RSIs, and pretty much anything else even resembling a technical indicator, I bought back in at $1070 or so (at that point, maybe 1.2 coins or so) and told myself I'd come back and check it in a week or so to reap my rewards.
I sold a week later at around $715, posting a loss of around $350. Lesson learned: always have a stop loss, and either automate it or pay enough attention to be able to implement it manually.
Over the next two weeks, I bought back in (1.4 coins worth or so, maybe worth $850 in fiat at the time) and tried my hand at shorter term trading on BTC-E using QT Bitcoin Trader (which is an awesome app, kudos to whomever designed it). Riding little waves and bumps, buying high, selling low, beginning to pay attention to the various indicators available on bitcoinwisdom and bitcoincharts. I never seemed to make too much forward progress though; for every three times I'd make $10, there would be one unforeseen market movement that would cost me $30 before I hit my stop loss. On two separate occasions, I fell asleep/zoned out/got distracted while trading and came back a few hours later to find myself down $60 or so dollars. Going back over my strategies, I found a few mistakes I'd made that I likely wouldn't have if I'd paid attention to more indicators or hadn't panic sold shy of my stop loss. Lesson learned: 1) once you have a plan, stick to it; and 2) make sure your plan contemplates conflicting signals so that you don't put all your eggs in one basket.
So that's where I find myself today. I continue to learn more about various indicators, the nuances of the order book, and when to spot a pump & dump trap during low volume trading periods, but I'm still 35% or so down from what I put in, and 50% down from my all-time high. Do I have any more lessons to learn? Is my stop loss set too high - am I too risk averse? Am I trading on windows that are too short for human beings to be able to successfully trade on and make consistent profits, given the number of sophisticated bots that dominate prices and trends during most low volume periods? Or do I just not have the tools - the automated, mathematical, scientific tools - needed to remove my personal judgment and fear from the equation entirely, so that I can actually physically walk away from the ticker?
Or is it possible I'm just not any good at this?
Perhaps this is less of a genuine question and more of a rant. I doubt I'll want to really walk away now (I don't really need the $1000, and wouldn't be hurting if I lost all of it tomorrow, which is at least one rule I went with and got right from the start), but sometimes you just get down enough to want to complain to some folks who have been there. Thanks for listening.

Casting a net to catch a sharp rise.

Hey everyone. I wanted to share a strategy that I thought of (that may or may not already be a thing) that I hope I can use to take advantage of sudden spikes in the market without me having to watch the charts as often. In other words, I am looking for a way to take my life back yet have my cake too. I will relate it to this mornings sudden spike in price.
I apologize for the long post.
After Thursdays announcement (or lack thereof) from Mt.Gox, the market crashed, then rebounded a bit, then steady declined before hovering at a steady price between 555 and 545 (on BTC-E). The pattern is all too familiar when bad news hits the market. In the steady period that followed, I didn't want to put my fiat in with the fear that we'd see more bad news come out of Gox. However, I felt that if Gox miraculously announced some positive news, the market would rally and my reluctance to jump in would cost me potential gains.
With the dust settled after the crash, the price was holding relatively steady at around $550 (once again, on BTC-E who I will be referencing from this point on). Volumes were low so I could reasonably take a gamble that as long as volumes stayed low, movement would be relatively contained. Usually in these periods of steady prices, it takes news (good or bad) to cause a spike in volume, or a whale throwing a ton of weight around. Any of these events that would cause a surge are favourable to this strategy.
Using QT Bitcoin Trader, I wanted to set up a 'net', or a rule to buy if the price shot up from $550 to $560. A 'net' to catch the upswing. I fully understand that the price could 'creep' up too, but I want this to catch a sudden surge and not a creep.
The purpose of this is to simply catch a surge and ride it up. Since price creeps can take some time, setting up an e-mail alert for when the price hits $558 would give me time to adjust my net accordingly not to catch a slow creep up in price.
If the market surges (like it did this morning), my buy order would have filled at $560 and I would have been able to play this surge and turn a bit of a profit.
If the market crashed, I'd have remained in fiat and suffered no loss.
Now, there are a few risks to this strategy and I understand that it is impossible to avoid risk. My goal is to be able to set the trades to be a little more automated while lowering the risk.
Primary risk: If a sudden surge caused the price to peak at $560, my buy would have filled and the subsequent crash would have cost me a loss.
How I would mitigate this: - Typically (but not always), you see walls at nice even values like $560. Through market observation, I notice that on a price surge, if there is a large amount of coin being sold for $560, the quantity gets eaten up quickly and 'bursts' up into the higher values. - On the flip side, in a crash, there tends to be larger buy walls at somewhat round $ values that get filled quickly and 'burst' on the way down into lower buy values.
I would have set 2 rules in my plan. Rule 1, buy at $560.01 Rule 2, if Rule 1 fills, sell all at $559.99
Once again, I understand that I am making an assumption of there being any sort of wall at $560. It is a gamble, but it is one I often see being true.
When the market blows through $560, my buy at $560.01 gets scooped up and I ride the wave up.
If the market immediately crashes, then the bad case scenario happens and my sell order goes up costing me a few cents per bitcoin and all associated fees.
I wouldn't win on every spike with this scenario, and the market climate as it were this morning (with uncertain news from gox) makes the perfect type of climate to employ this type of strategy. Had I actually gone through with it (sadly I was talked out of it), I would have taken advantage of a nice chunk of the surge and seen some profit, all the while minimizing my risk of bad news from Gox.
I wanted to open up the discussion to see if any one employs a similar strategy, or is familiar with one, and can lists the major faults or reasons why it wouldn't work, and any tips and advice to adjust this.
Thanks
Krispy
EDIT: Now that I think about it. The market seems to be steadying now which would seemingly make it a good time cast a similar net since the Gox situation is still so uncertain.

Cloverhill Trust

Cloverhill Trust
Goal The goal is to accumulate as much purchasing power for its shareholders as possible.
Investment strategy The fund is trading crypto currency crosses and crypto currency denominated assets. The fund holds a core position in Bitcoins and also takes positions in producing investments. While markets are selected with a fundamental bias, positions are taken from on technically sound risk-reward basis. The crypto currency space is evolving rapidly and the manager takes pride in staying atop of the emerging trends and latest news. The fund is agile in its investments and subscribe to no other religion then that of maximizing the value of the fund itself.
Technology The fund is actively managed by a human. Proprietary tools are used to collect and analyze data from multiple sources. Markets are analyzed from a multi time frame perspective and trades can last for as little as a few hours, to several months. The main principle is trend following, but the key is to identify over extended moves and profiting from natural swings in the market. Simply put the fund extracts profit from market by aligning itself with the overall trend and trading price volatility.
Denomination The fund is denominated in Bitcoins. That means that the value of the fund is measured in the amount of Bitcoins it holds. Deposit and withdraw in Bitcoins.
No management fees If and only if the fund appreciates in value, a percentage of the appreciation goes to the fund manager. There is no management fee, which implies that there is an incentive to always grow the net worth of the fund. If the fund does not appreciate in value the fund manager earns nothing.
Dividend Dividends in the form of Bitcoins are paid out to all shareholders three times a year: at the end of April, August and December. The dividend is calculated as a percentage of the total appreciation of the fund in terms of Bitcoins. To calculate appreciation, the funds holdings is first priced in Bitcoins at market price at the time of valuation. Then total value of the fund is divided by number of shares outstanding. If the value of a share have increased since the last dividend was calculated, 15% of appreciation is paid out to the fund manager, 10% is paid out to the share owner and 75% goes back into the fund.
Shares When shares are bought or sold back to the fund, the fair value of a share is used. The fair value of a share in the fund is calculated by dividing the total worth of the fund in terms of Bitcoins divided by the amount of shares outstanding. When shares are bought and sold on the market, the market sets the price. The number of shares outstanding is communicated on reddit using the signing key (below). A share serves the purpose of adding capital to the fund and has no voting power.
Buying and selling shares to the fund New shares can be issued by the fund and outstanding shares sold back to the fund. Shares transactions are executed right after dividends have been paid out. New share issuance and buy backs does not affect the valuation of the funds appreciation. There is no cost attached to buying shares issued by the fund. For each share sold back to the fund, a 5% fee is deducted from the shares fair value and added to the funds net worth and the share is then destroyed. Since the fee is distributed equally to all share holders, everyone benefit from other share owners selling their shares.
Buying and selling share on the market Shares can be sold on the market. When a share is sold on the market, this transaction must be communicated to Cloverhill Trust so that the Bitcoin address tied to that share can be changed. This is done by sending an email to [email protected] with a message containing the new owners Bitcoin address. The message must be signed with the key associated with the former address attached to the share. The fund charges a 10% transaction fee of the shares fair value. The fee goes to the fund and thereby all shareholders stand to benefit from shares being bought and sold on the market. The fund must register and confirm that a share has changed owner, before the share can change owner again. The fund will process transactions at the end of each month. This implies that a share can only change owner one time each month. If in the future an automatic system is introduced, these transactions and fee will be lowered considerably and the time in which a share can change hands lowered by orders of magnitude.
Risk The fund should be considered high risk. Mainly because the crypto currency space is an unregulated market and still in its infancy. To minimize third-party risk, only exchanges that have stood the test of time are used. Long term positions are kept in cold storage. Shorter term positions are stored in a hot wallet and only when speed is required, stored on an exchange. In case of death of fund manager, trusted parties (a selected group of shareholders) will liquidate the fund and shares be bought back from its owners at fair value.
Leverage Fund may at times be leveraged or have exposure to leverage.
Liquidation of the fund The fund may be liquidated at any point in time without prior warning. The fund will automatically buy back all outstanding shares at fair value.
Privacy and communication A share is associated with a Bitcoin address. Besides from that, the fund has no other knowledge of the owners of the funds outstanding shares. While the fund might change email address in the future, the fund will always sign important messages with its key. Communication with fund is done through email only. Make sure to sign your message with your key attached to the share. You can use the official Bitcoin client, Bitcoin-QT.
Personal note from the fund manager I have half a decade of stock market and forex trading. Having been a software engineer and a trader, Bitcoin naturally caught my attention. I have managed other peoples money before and have realized that I do a better job of managing my own money, if I also have responsibility for others. If I can also make a small profit from it, then that is even better. I am also very interested and accumulating reputation and trust, since I believe that this is an asset that in time could open many doors and prove very profitable.
Do you want to invest? The fund has no knowledge of the identity of its share owners, but if you find shares on the market you can buy shares in the fund there. You can also buy shares directly from the fund, when new shares are being issued. To keep the number of shareholders on a manageable level and the market value of the shares stable, new shares are issued on a sporadic basis. Send an email if you want to buy shares!
Passthrough and derivatives Only shareholders may create derivatives with shares in the fund as underlying asset.
